from http://www.aviation-history.com/vought/f4u.html:
"Although it wasn’t designated by the Navy as such, the dash four was a fighter-bomber for all intents and purposes. It had 6 Colt-Browning .50 cal. (12.7 mm) wing mounted machine guns (the F4U-4C substituted four 20 mm cannon), plus it could carry two 1,000 lb (453.6 kg) bombs or eight 5 inch (127 mm) rockets. The first 300 of the production F4U-4Cs were assigned to Marine Air Group 31 and were taken into the Battle for Okinawa aboard the escort carriers Sitko Bay and Bereton. "

black eye Cathcart, or feather in your cap?

here is an USN F4U-4c landing (poorly) on the Essex (probably Korean War era photo)

Oops.  My bad.  They brought it back in 1951.  This must be between 1951 and 1955, though, since it was modified to be an angled deck carrier.

There is no 190 model that carries 6 20mm.  There's one that carries 2 30mms, 2 20mms, and 2 13mms!!!  Maybe that's the one you were thinkng of.

Pongo is right.

There were several other loadoutas aswell that included more 30mm etc (tests were made with underwing Mk 103's but they never went into full scale production for the 190)

could be a way to introduce GM1 or MW50 to 190A, or 150 octane for Spits or Tempests.

Add the Grand Slam, the Tallboy, and the German gliding remote controlled bombs. Spice that with a bouncing bomb too!!
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)
