Tell me its not True
« on: September 23, 2002, 10:25:53 AM »
I was reading open conversation on channel one late last night regarding hit precentage I had never heard of this before.

It is my understanding a player can raise their hit precentage by shooting at their own hangers while on the ground or diving on them... the poster went on to say this is how players are able to finish first in all all around or raise their score.

It's true, you can improve your hit percentage this way. However, the effect it has on one's score is not nearly as dramatic as described.

Only in attack scoring. Building hits don't count for fighter score.

There is noone in this game that pays any more attention to his score then I, but if I have to resort these kind of tactics I will quit this game.

In my opinion the scores are just a way for you to determine if you are improving or not.

I do wish they would update the squad scores though they only get updated for about 3-4 days then never again for the rest of the month.

Scores are meaningless except for one thing and that is fleet control.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

An even better way to improve your score is to fly a mid-war plane, like the F4U-1 birdcage model, or the P51B, or the FW190, or 109F or P-40E, planes that can be moderately competitive if flown right.

Don't worry about some jerk who shoots his own hangers to get a higher hit percentage and ranking!

If your hit percentage is an honestly achieved one, and you feel a need to rate yourself, I would submit the following rankings:

<2.5%         Below Average

2.5 - 5%      Average

5 - 8%         Above Average

8 - 12%       Excellent

>12%          Expert

******

This is just a guess...it would be interesting to do a survey of hit percetages.  I think the largest group of pilots will be between 2.5 and 5%.

MRPLUTO  VMF-323  ~Death Rattlers~  MAG-33

P.S.  It occurs to me one must consider this, though:  An effective pilot might shoot at a lot more aircraft, taking shots that are a low percentage of hits.  But this will pay off in more kills and assists than the pilot who just takes "sure" shots.  So, always look at the number of assists compared to the number of kills.

Oh, no!  Well, no relationship was intended.  These are percentages, not inches!

ROFL >12 inches = EXCELLENT!

Actually, I've always thought of my aim as rather poor.  I think I usually average 7-8%.  There is no way that could be considered good aim.  I think good aim is like 15% lol.
