Given there's a drought in the area, I don't believe the storm is all that unwelcome.

80% of my family lives within 50 miles of New Orleans.  but they're used to these things and this one is only a TS not a hurricain so it shouldn't be that bad,  just a LOT of rain.

This sucker ain't nothing compaired to Alicia back in '83.  She hit Galveston, Tx w/ 145-150 mph winds and by the time she got to Houston 140-145mph winds!!!!! Dumbarsed me at the age of 13 sat with my face against a 7'x4' plate glass window watching the whole thing go down :D  We were the only block in our neighborhood that didn't lose power for 2 weeks.

Houston looked like a war zone after that one....

My memory is muddy

Seeing as how I work for the Louisiana Office of Emergency Preparedness, and I'll be the one out sloshing through the flooding, I would say it's going to affect me a great deal.

Oh yeah,  my uncle's been working his bellybutton off this week.  He flies helocopters for some big oil company, so he's been evacuating the oil well workers all week.   Can you imagine flying a helo through that toejam?  He's done it in all the major gulf hurricains for the past 20 years!!
