Lost AH 1152X864 display
« on: September 25, 2002, 12:52:11 PM »
Hi All,

I recently made the mistake of trying to install America's Army, which didn't work. In the process of trying to get it to work on my system, I reinstalled my DirectX 8.1 drivers. Then when I later started playing AH I discovered my video settings were gone, and I was unable to play the game at my actual video setting: 1152X864. Now the greatest resolution NOT greyed out is 1024x768.

How do I get back the 1024x768 setting?

After re-installing Directx, did you remove and re-install your video card drivers?

Ok Johnnyb just did that AH video selection page still has everything above 1024x768 greyed out. Any other suggestions?

What are your system specs?  Are you running a Win9x or NT-based kernel?  What graphics card do you have?

Hopefully when I've got this info, I'll be able to offer some other solutions.  If you want to take this offline feel free to email me at jonnyb1@cox.net.  Or, we can keep it here so others may benefit ;).

Hi,

I'm comfortable discussing it here so that others with my problem might benefit (I hear a lot of people can't get AA to work on their systems).

I have:

An AMD 700 on a KT7 Raid Motherboard, with 256 MB RAM. My graphics card is a Hercules 3D Prophet II MX with 32 Megs of RAM. I'm running Windows 98SE and DirectX 8.1.

Any other info you need?

to have 1152*864 you have to edit directly your video7.cfg and set manualy the resolution you want.

et zou ! (not translatable ;))

Hi Straffo,

Here is my current Video7 file which is producing 1024X768 resolution, instead of the former 1152X864.

Ok.  It seems to me that somehow your graphics settings became corrupt.  There are two programs you should get to help fix the problem.  The first is called detonator destroyer.  Its job is to completely remove all traces of previous video card drivers from your system so that you install new ones completely fresh.  You can get it from here:

Detonator Destroyers

The second program is Rivatuner.  It allows you to tweak the heck out of your video card settings, including monitor refresh rates, color depths and display sizes.  You can find that one here:

Riva Tuner

Ok.  Now that you've got those 2 programs, goto nvidia.com and download the newest drivers.  Make sure you get the ones for Win9x (duh ;)).  After you get them, run detonator destroyer to completely uninstall and remove your current drivers.  Once that has been completed, follow the instructions to install the new drivers.  After you've got your new drivers in place (probably take a couple of reboots) run rivatuner.  Read through the documentation and manually set your available displays to include 1152x864x32 if it does not already.  Make sure to set it to a refresh rate your monitor can handle.  Safest bet is to start with 60Hz and go up from there.

Once you've tweaked and saved, make sure you can actually use the 1152x864x32 on your desktop.  If you can, then load up AH and see if you can select it from the video settings.  If you can't, try to uninstall AH and re-install (make sure to save any custom sounds/views/stick.cfg files first).

Hope some of this helps and gets you back up in the air.

Make sure you right-click on the links above and choose "Save target as" or whatever instead of just left-clicking on them.

Seagoon,
In addition to the above advice, you probably should delete your video7 file in AH.  Next time you start AH it will take you to the video settings screen and a new video7 file will be created.
