I have a new found respect for this duo:
http://sg.news.yahoo.com/reuters/asia-127247.html

They limit their kids to that box that spews pollution, and spend alot of time reading with their kids....big WTG!

what kills me is the type of thing depicted commercials like the one where the Father (male role model) can't control all the little screaming kids..
wife comes home, flips on the tube, all is quiet and peaceful.

too many, and I mean WAY too many parents use the tube as a pacifier.  It's sooo much easier than spending time with them.

:(

you wouldn't let a stranger, or group of strangers wander into your house and start talking to your kids about who knows what...but that exactly what happens when you plug your kids into the tube and ignore them..someone ELSE is teaching your  kids what THEY want them to learn.. eat crappy food..demand cheap toys..its cool to rebel against your parents...etc.

Cruise says he limits his kids time with 'puters.

Major mistake. You can't start to early with these toys. And they'll clothe ya and keep ya fed if you take an interest in 'em :).

Sort of like a  ugly woman with lots of cash, really.

Heya Santa! Didn't recognize your handle with that see-through on..:D

My kids get computer time too, 1.5 hours of TV a day (they're forced to watch the evening news, though they don't pay attention, and 1 hour of "Spongebob squarepants" :D) and we read together for 1 hour.

We don't do playstations, and my kids know they won't own one in this house.  Playstations are "brainrot" of the finest kind, IMO.  OTOH, my oldest is showing interest in model building, think we're going to get him a "snap together" kit this week end.

That doesn't surprise me, what with all the porn, hate groups and, of course, anti-scientology sites (at least the ones that haven been driven off the net by pressuring the hosts). Wouldn't want then asking Mom and Dad too many uncomfortable questions :)

When my oldest daughter was 18 months old, she discovered an escape route from her crib. On that morning we heard our TV come on....then off...then on... then off all to the accompanying sounds of whack, whack, whack.

We jumped out of bed to see our precious little princess standing in front of the large console TV smacking the hell out of it with a diaper that really qualified as toxic waste. The diaper was hitting the power switch every once in a while. She thought it was a hoot I guess.

We decided to limit her TV hitting time after that.

Content.  We have spelling games, reading games, mathematics games etc. etc.  The only game they (my kids) have where they don't learn something is AH, even then, my son is infactuated with learning more about WW2 history, so even AH is a good "learning tool" so to speak.

LOL! Well, first off, his Vox is disabled, he hears no voices...secondly, he doesn't pay attention to the text buffer, and at 6 yrs. old, doesn't understand too many words over 4-6 characters long, certainly wouldn't know how to read a swear word since he hasn't a clue how their spelled (yet).  Lastly, he's lost interest in AH lately,(He's been into IL-2) so his cousin has been using his account quite a bit lately when he visits.
