'..don't hate me becuase i'm beautiful...'
« on: September 29, 2002, 10:00:59 PM »

This is the bird I'm modeling.. "Little Joe". flown by Lt. Joe Cannon w/ the 357th in 1945.

The replica's 1/5 scale, weighs 18lbs, has 12 servos, smoke, springair rectracts, flaps and took lil over a month to finish. I had her assembled with the wing and belly pan on for the first time this afternoon, couldn't resist snapping a shot.

Gonna finish the graphics and nose art this week, and finish the radio progamming, do the run-ups and generaly not sleep till I fly it for the first time at next weekends warbirds meet here on Long Island.

Lets hope I don't piss my pants on the takeoff... ;)

Yea, I've got mylilponyitus. Don't hate me because i'm beautiful. ;)

rge that, fdiorn.. it started out as the world models GS p51... but mosta the arfluff'ness of the damn thing was crap, and it was intended for 120-140 glow. I freakin hate glow engines, and determined i could shoehorn a gasser into the nose. I then proceeded to beef the thing up to handle a real engine, which turned into an engineering project. By the time i got done addin smoke and real pnuematics with a tail wheel retract and redid the control system for real SAE amelican hardware and GS servos and tossed the cheezie graphics in the trash (wtf do the chinese know about R/C anyway??) it wasn't so much an arf.

She's sittin on her oleo's 5 lbs heavier than spec, with about 60% more HP.. if nothin else it'll make a spectacular lawn dart.

:D

How do you build that ? Is it some commercial kit with all parts prepared ? Any way to put four blade prop of correct size on it ?

What's the wingloading on that now? Adding 5lbs to the spec weight sure raised my eyebrow... this isn't going to be a "floater", especially given it was an ARF to begin with (usually heavier than scratch kits). Better keep that baby close to the field in case the engine dies. ;)

It's a "D" for sure- look at the step in the leading edge. H's removed the step and went with a smaller wheel.

Do you know anything about the Remote plane sims?

I saw one at a hobby shop you could choose bunches of dif planes including a p-51, and a F-86, with a ducted fan.

the remote thing plugged into the puter and it had two sticks and all kinds of switches. Is this a good tool to learn how to fly a remote plane with no risk of crashing one?

this is the one I saw

Yes Realflight is a very good learning tool, but its a bit unrealistic. For example here is a I screenshot I just made from Realflight G2 and a giant scale  P51 model shouldn't be able to do this:

Here ya go Hangtime i bet this woult really tick you warbird types off! :D
