This is the transcript of an ACTUAL radio conversation of a US
naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of
Newfoundland in October, 1995.

Americans: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the North to
avoid a collision.

Canadians: Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the
South to avoid a collision.

Americans: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again,
divert YOUR course.

Canadians: No. I say again, you divert YOUR course.

Americans: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN, THE SECOND
LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE
ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS
SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES
NORTH, THAT'S ONE FIVE DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTER-MEASURES WILL
BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.

Canadians: We are a lighthouse. Your call.

and this:

in October, 1995. US navy fighters destroyed a small lighthouse and island off the coast of Newfoundland, three days later the US apologized to Canada, the US said "it was a missunderstanding"

How destroying the light house could clear the way I don't understand as it must have been standing on something :)

It's a quite fun story though, true or not. I could definatly see it happen :)

hehe not sure if my sig. is true, the bit about destorying the lighthouse was someone joking.

And it was 617 Squadron that did special ops in Lancaster, Tallboys were used a lot, in precision night strikes, the RAF used a mosquito pathfinder to drop flares and incendries on a target at very low level, to light it up, which the lancs used as their aiming point. so all the BS about RAF just area bombing isnt true!

They also developed an anti shipping bouncing bomb with could be carried on the Mosquito, this was called High Ball or something i believe.  Not sure if it was used in combat though, seen footage of it being dropped.
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

Seen fotage of that skip bomb aswell Furrball. Not sure if it was used, there were however other skip bombs used, by many countries. US had anti shipping skip bombs.

LW also ha da type of anti tank skip bomb which was used against ground targets.

the US used high ball or whatever it was, but they didn't like it because it kept blowing the tails off their b25s
