Have a server message notify a Player when he has been Squelched by another.  Use white or orange text.

I had this idea a while back. If a player squelched you, the server would send you a message that said..

SERVER: You have been squelched by X players

where X = the number of players that have you squelched. If the number of players exceeded a certain preset value (say 20) you would be unable to transmit on channel 1 for an hour.

If, after you were allowed to talk again, you were squelched by (say 10) more players, you would be unable to transmit on channel 1 for another 2 hours.

Basically, if someone were to be a problem on channel 1, they would see that they were being squelched. Everytime another person squelched them, they would get a new server message indicating the current number. Eventually, that person would either get the hint (I.e. stop acting like an uneducated child) or they would be squelched.

The community pressure would eventually win out, and people might actually stop all the filth throwing on open channels.

Hmmm... If you've already squelched them... what do you care if they talk on channel 1 or not?

lol, as if i care who squelches me or not? the only ones i care about are the dumb ones who reply, especially if they're far removed from the event, giving me more squeaky toys to play with.

but the arena "voting" concept is pure stupidity.

imagine all the generalissmos on each side getting daily or even hourly "votes" to get squelched to simply a) shut them up (by their *own* country mates) or b) by opposing countries to screw up strategies.

hey!!  maybe it's a doable concept after all!!

Who knows.. of course 10 is far too few to be fair. However, the number should be such that if people were becoming upset with an individual's attitude on channel 1, they could do something about it.

Further, I would expect this squelch to be on channel 1 only. Otherwise, the statement of other countries squelching someone from talking to their own country-mates would certainly be a problem.

I do not know this for a fact, however I believe that the majority of all garbage talk occurs over channel 1 to players in opposing countries. Basically, a person who kept running at the mouth would begin to be squelched from players of all three countries.

Most reasonable people would see they were being squelched and take the hint to just shut up, before more people squelched them and they lost channel 1 transmit privledge all together.

A. Channel 1 comms only in the tower.

That way people can salute the guy who shot them down, or whine that somebody popped their chute.

B. Option to squelch channel 2
C. Option to squelch area voice channel

That will solve the problem.

Other options:
make channel 1 "Detune" after every radio transmission.  That way, those seeking a conversation on Channel 1 will have to retune every time

Set the language filter to automatically mute a player for five minutes after transmitting three times on channel 1.

Add the following words to the language filter:
SS
hitler
hispano
laser
turbolaser
republican
iraq
score
vulch
dweeb
Me262
FW190
Kurt Tank
Tiger
Panzer
Ta-152
Glassess
Luftwaffe
MW-50
Reich

And then we'll get two guys running film of the text buffer, trying to see who can get the most squelches then bragging about it on the bbs.

But what if you put in the damn command to squelch a channel or player and it doesn't take, or work?
Lately, I've tried the squelch commands, both of individual players and of channel one, neither works, I still see all the BS on Ch1 and the folks who I have squelched still ranting and raving.............
