Well, whatta ya know, the neighbor came up with the check over the weekend.  The truck is in the shop as we speak.  The guy was very apologetic and the dogs haven't been loose since.

But I'm still ever-vigilent.  The check hasn't cleared yet.

even if the check bounces it's still a good thing.  seems like very solid evidence of reponsability if you have to take him to small claims court.  plus in most states you can sue for upto 3 times the checks face value for bounced checks.  (at least thats what the sign says whereever I write checks)
