Definitely gives the impression that our B17 guns are overmodelled. Those fighters seem to spend a lot of time saddled up.

Is the film in slow motion?

I suspect the gunners in most cases were either dead in the first few seconds or they were outta ammo. In not ONE of those frames was a shot fired back at the attacking fighter. In those cases where the buffs shot back, at those ranges there'd likely be no surviving gun camera to take pictures with...

Besides, you gonna motivate young scared toejamless LWeenies with pictures of FW's or 109's gettin creamed at close range whilst sittin right on the bellybutton of a B17 at 75m with a 5mph rate of close doin the dummest most dangerous approach on an ARMED bomber?

well of course , the only films you will have are from the LW planes that did not get shot down, the only question is , who shot down more LW, P-51's or B-17's

Thanks Gh0stFT. Great stuff.

Amazing how those bombers held together. Don't see as many wings coming off them in these clips as you do in AH.

Nah.. the question is, how many of the claimed kills by B17s were false.
One kill often had several claims and often the kill wasnt a kill. :>

from a test on the ground the b17 side gunner firing at a target 600yrds away there was a pettern of 36 ft. Of course ah arent correct. Theres no gun shake at all. The tail gunners pattern was like 24 feet. Imagine trying to track a 350mph plane.

We had a guy in our squad whos dad or grand dad was a b24 tail gunner and they couldnt hit crap.

They didnt know what range they started firing at they just let um have it.

The gunners easily killed especially tail gunners. Before the Stormgruppen site was taken down there was a pilot account of 1 guy flying up ded 6 on a formation of b24s over the alps.

He said at 1200 to 800 yrds it was like running around in the shower trying not to get wet. But once closer then 800 it was easier because only 1 set guns could trained on him.

He them with 2cm killed the tail gunner and belly turret then shot out the left ib eng. He did this 3 more times before rtbing.

Of course this is just anecdotal evidence. No one claims that buff guns cant kill. But we do have evidene that simply getting a hit was luck.

Some were definately shot down, some colided but the sturmgrupped lost 3 190s to every 1 b17 shot down. Almost all were shot down by escort ac.

The damage model on the bombers in ah seems weak. However from accounts of stormgruppen pilots with 3cm hei using hydrostatic fuses 1 hit was enough to explode a fuel tank. Mosty of the time I kill bombers I oput lotsa rounds into umm. They die easy but they eat quite a bit of ammo.
