Funny, here I was all this time thinking that it was all about Oil... Silly Me.

As for  "These backwards third world countries are quakin in their boots. Do you really think ANY country wants the wrath of the US military unleashed on it? "

That's all very good in the movies but what's the long term plan once you've finished your bombing sorties and/or invaded a country like Iraq?

Setup your own puppet government and occupy the country. For what 2,5 or 10 years? Can't imagine that would be very popular. Then again the whole Iraqi business seems generally unpopular the world over.

Sorry but it all just seems rather short sighted to me.

Want proof that Iraq is evil? They consider dogs "unclean" as do most Muslims. How can ya not love a dog, the most faithful pet known to man? Maybe it's the air over there, not enough oxygen in it or something. ;)

No. Actually it means that they are not ready to grill.  "Unclean dogs" means they're ready for skinning, and frying.

Maybe I'm foolish, but I think if we leave NK alone, they'll leave us alone. And, for them to use nukes would almost certainly bring a swift reaction from the countries around them. For that reason I (perhaps wrongfully) view them as "contained".

I think you're thinking of one of the other evil countries Rip. ;)

Correct me if wrong but it seems I've heard that owning a dog is illegal in Iraq.

How difficult would it be.....let me rephrase this:  Is it conceivable that  twenty tactical nuclear briefcase bombs could be smuggled into the US and detonated at the same minute of the same hour of the same day in the twenty largest US cities.

If this were to occur would it be realistic to say the US would, for all intents and purposes, effectively be destroyed?

I can only wonder and hope that the war planners have seen how this could be possible (however unlikely) and generated plans to deal with it.  But more importantly, people all over the world need to understand what the consequences would be if this scenario were ever to occur.  I sense the entire world lapsing into the same feigned ignorance that so catostrophically promoted the last two world wars.  Having France and Russia deny the UN resolution any teeth is a remarkable forbearer of the future.

yes

&

yes

I'd be suprised if we could muster any response large enough to make a difference.

20 major cities/sites getting nuked simutaneously? It'd be over before we got our pants on ...

This is exactly a senerio which has a China/North Korea/Iraq/Iran whoever holds the nuclear bombs, the ability to hand a fanatical suicidal group the ability to pull off such an attack. Then that gov quickly provides evidence, say Pal nutbags did it, they nuke the hell outa Palestine and are heroes.

Mean ole America is dead, Israel quickly to follow, The Pals are gone , China then invades the oil fields, nuking a few who put up resistance and a new world order has started.

Action today, no time for reaction tomorrow

We can no longer sit back and allow communist infiltration, communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids!!!

Yep.  Lost a little bite since the end of the Cold War, but I still watch it once a year or so.

Also, find myself whistling "When Johnny Come Marching Home", flying NOE buff raids.    :D

I know it sounds like sci-fi or something

but do you really think there are NOT groups out there plotting/planning, trying to figure out a way to carry out a plan as described by Yeager?

I do. I think there are kooks who sit around and think of nothing else. All they need is a helping hand and they will attempt it, not wise to think otherwise....
