Lead Plane Bombing
« on: October 20, 2002, 12:34:23 PM »
I've come to realize that this forum is for wish lists.  So, the following isn't really a "suggestion" per se.

I've read that planes like the p38 and the a20 had modifications made to them whereby the lead plane in a flight had a level bombing sight in the nose (guns were removed, of course) which would signal the other planes in the flight to drop their bombs.  This way you could take a bunch of nice dogfighters up, do a precision hihg-alt bombing run, then be right there for field CAP and general jabo cleanup.  Of course the lead plane is a sitting duck, but I assume that plane would head for home after the drop.

The P-38 could also carry a pair of 2000lb bombs.

During the Vietnam conflict when the weather was bad, a B-66 would handle the aiming while a pair of F-105s would fly off each of the bomber's wing tips.  The B-66 would signal the release.  Don't know how effective it was; never heard of any complaints form the locals.

It would be an interesting thing to try on-line with a bomber and JABOs.

I did the once the other day.

Was flying a mosquito as escort along with several lancasters.  I dropped my 4 500lb bombs along with the lancs, anc DID land some hits.

So it is practical in the game.  (Well as practical as any buff mission)
