For you tank fans.
I got to talking with my father in law a few days ago. ( He was a 3d army, tank commander in WW2). He seldom has talked about his war. But he brought up a couple of storys.
This was kind of funny. He said that he had the first sherman tank in europe with a flash supresser on the muzzel of the cannon. Jeep drivers would scatter when they saw him. Thinking that he was a german tank
He seem to get a big kick out of this.
I ask about the armor on the panzers. He didnt remember fighting one. But he did remember the tiger tanks. He said that the engin compartment was its weak point. And the Tiger commanders would offer this target to the sherman,s. Of course, with there cannon pointing across the top of the compartment. He said. That when he hit this point, the tiger turret would pop off like a bottel cap. And the thing would burn for 3 days.
Like most war storys, there,s not much point to this. I just thought you tankers might find it interesting.
