Difference between PC2100 and PC3200 Ram
« on: October 24, 2002, 02:58:44 AM »
I see people ponder often which type of ddr they should get.

So I thought a quick info is in order:

If you're using any of the currently available Athlon or Pentium processors with STOCK speeds, PC2100 is enough for you and 3200 won't be ANY faster by any means. Just more expensive.

However, if you overclock your cpu and raise your fsb to 2x166 (or in the case of pentium 4x166) THEN you need PC3200 and it will be indeed faster, but only because you bumped up your FSB.

So, PC2100 for stock speeds

PC3200 for overclocking or the next generation cpu's which aren't available yet.

Minus nothing stops you from running your PC2100 at CL2, regardless to which it's rated for. I run my crucial 2.5 at 2 and it's solid as a rock.
