Hey guys...I recently got a laptop and will be installing an XP Pro on it. It's the Upgrade version and is also the Academic Version - I don't know that the academic version is any different, it's just cheaper for students. Anyhow, I've already tried this once, and the damn thing wouldn't install without a qualifying OS already in place to install from - even if I want to do a fresh install. It just says it can't find a qualifying OS and cannot continue the install. No options to continue or search, just F3 to quit.
Am I missing something...do I need to use some command line switch when I start the install (I'm starting the install using winnt.exe)? I know that with previous versions of Windoze, you could install an upgrade on a bare HD and all that was required was to insert the install disc from a qualifying previous version of windows when it prompted you for a location for the previous ver.
So, does XP Upgrade require the installation of a previous windows ver, or is there some way around that? Thanks!
