Need Best Drivers for nvidea card
« on: October 27, 2002, 05:36:29 PM »
I have a Geforce 2 GTS DDR 64mb Video card.

I have been told that the drivers that came with the card are not as compatible with Aces High as some newer versions...

1.  Which version is the best with AH ?
2.  Where can I download the new drivers?
3.  Do I need to download a cleaner to delete old drivers?

Thanks in Advance

1. Depends on your system, with the GF2's, the 12.41's are good baseline drivers, almost guarenteed to work without issues.  The 23.11's are somewhat faster.

2. http://www.guru3d.com/files/

3. You don't have to but you should, I havn't had any problems installing over different driver sets on win2k, but it can't hurt(And with win98/me you definitly should delete them)  Detonator destroyer is on the url above.

When it comes down to it though, drivers can depend an awefull lot on your system, so for best performance, youll want to do a benchmark with various different driver versions.  Also, especially with the nvidia cards and drivers, the newest version isn't always the best.  Newer versions are optimized for the latest nvidia card, and it often hurts the older cards.

Detonator 40.72 (beta) solved several refresh problems for me and offers great performance.

I use 30.82 certified drivers with my GF2 GTS PRO and they work fine.  I got a smallish speedup with the latest detonator drivers (win98) but I also got a bunch of compatibility problems (3dmark2001SE would not complete, some openGL games gave me problems, etc) so I went back to the 30.82 drivers.  The latest 40.xx drivers also have very nice configuration menus but again, I had compatibility problems and had to regress back to 30.82.

I have tested several driver versions and saw less than 200 3dmark points difference, so 30.82 will give you about as much speed as you'll get.

Since you have winXP, you may get better results than I did with the latest detonators.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

I downloaded the 41.03 drivers and ran a test flight...

Frame rates increased to 60's in heavy smoke...

So far so good...  I need more time to tweak and test...
Hopefully I can do so tomorrow night (Tue 10/29)

Thanks for all of your input...
I am going to experiment with all mentioned drivers...

Simplest answer is download a bunch of drivers, install them 1 by 1 and benchmark 1 by 1, thats how you find the best.
