Trent Dilfer. Tampa Bay Buccaneer's #1 Draft Pick. Sam Wyche liked his size for a QB. Played here, broke a lot of hearts, and nobody like him. Played in Baltimore and went to the Super Bowl - and was cut the next season because nobody like him there, either. Now he's in Seattle...and injured.
The other biggest bust? Bo Jackson. But it wasn't his fault. Tampa Bay had the first pick overall and he warned them that if they drafted him, he'd go play baseball instead. The Bucs drafted him #1 overall. He went and played baseball for Kansas City for 4 or so years. After the draft rights had expired, he went to Oakland as a free agent running back and was hurt when he was tackled from behind. Wasn't a hard hit - the guy just wrapped around his waist and pulled him to the ground - but Bo's leg was positioned just such as way that the ball joint of his leg jammed into the socket of his hip and bruised the bone. The bone started dying and rotting and the surgeons had to replace it with a plastic artificial hip. His hip was rated as "B" compared to a normal guy's hip, so no more running for Mr. Jackson. He had talent, but just didn't get the right opportunities.
Didn't Brian Bosworth go to the Pro Bowl a couple of years before popping his shoulder and getting out of the game?
