When defending with a ground vehicle, and especially when you have friendlies nearby, SHUT YOUR DAMN ENGINE OFF MORON! :)

It really helps in detecting approaching ground vehicles and there's no reason to leave your engine on, unless you are moving.

There is nothing more irritating then the one noob at a VH, with his engine running, that refuses to acknowledge radio comms and leaves his engine running.

I like to hear my engine purrrrrr.  It relaxes my nerves whilst drawing a bead.

If you wanted a quiet war perhaps you should check out SWITZERLAND or CANADA!

So PISS OFF!

All powered turrets that are dependant on engine power (for hydraulics or electricity) should cease to operate when the engine is off.

I don't have specifics, but someone must know..

1. where did the Panver IV get power for turret operation?

2. where did the Ostwind get power for turret operation?

3. where did the M16 get power for turret operation?

4. where did the LVT get power for turret operation?

Your argument has swayed me.  We get the same complaint in WW2OL.

excellent points

The M16 was the same vehicle as the M3, except it carried an M45 Maxon quadmount where the M3 carried troops.  The M16 typically required a 4 man crew to operate.  The gunner was positioned in a seat which reclined at an angle of 45 degrees.  The quadmount was controlled via two handles.  Push both forward, the guns moved down.  Pull both back, the guns moved up.  Push the left forward, the guns rotated clockwise (while looking down).  Push the right forward, the guns rotated counter-clockwise (again, while looking down on the guns from above).

The M45 turret elevated and traversed via electric power.  The M16 carried 5000 rounds of ammunition, and the turret was able to fire 500-1000 rounds per minute.

4. where did the LVT get power for turret operation?

Depends on the situation Voss...I like to leave mine on, that way you can quickly move if need be when an enemy comes to drop a load on you.

LOL Ripsnort, you can't move quickly enough no matter if it's on or off. Even at full speed someone with experience in attack will hit you spot on.

mooja, this is why your performance in GV's is below average. Arfann can't back you up, because he doesn't play here (at least, his CPID isn't Arfann in the game; so he's ignored). The point is that the enemy that is approaching will shut their engines off and listen for your position. At that point they hear you, but you don't hear them and probably you haven't heard them at all. That's why you're dying without getting a shot off. You can play the way you want to, but the idea here is to improve your performance and help your country win.

Continue with the notion that you fight your way, or no way, and you'll only die often (as you are). Help your fellow countrymen by shutting your engine off and you might help save the field you're defending. Otherwise, you're more of a detriment.

Midnight, until the programming is changed (if it ever is) it would be ridiculous to do as you suggest. You know why.

Next week I move from the subject of GV's into the Attack role.

My performances in all vehicles are below average.  That doesn't prove a thing.  I can say with impunity that my performance would be much worse with the engine off so pipe down and suck it up like a man.  Nothing worse than an armchair general spittin on the n00bs.  In fact now that i've read your rant i'll be much more likely to leave the engine on.

Nilsen10, I suppose you're right.  I think it's AH bringing out the worst in me. ;)  Maybe I should try another addiction.  Have you ever tried knitting?
