I used to be the same way... I've got a good friend that turned me on to it and between that and the stuff my teenage son listens to, I've grown fond of it.

I've started raiding Kazaa for all the old stuff that I rejected just out of hand... LL Cool J, Run-DMC, Beastie Boys, etc...

I think I prefer the old school stuff over some of the newer rap/rock like, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, etc...

FWIW... I'm 40.

I thought airhead had a teen.  Prolly puts him at least mid-late 30's.

Airhead is at least 50..., but a young hip 50.

I'm 45 and I knew Run-DMC through their Aerosmith video. My sons wouldn't be caught dead listening to those "sell-out rappers". They saw them as just slightly more cool than the Fresh Prince, but just slightly.

Master J getting killed will probably do wonders for their gangsta mystique and boost sales.

If I understand the history, the "gangsta rappers" pretty much pushed RunDMC out of the market. Also, I'm not up on the real differences, but the purists tell me that RunDMC is hip-hop, not rap.

Don't ask me the difference... I'm far too old to tell. :)

I'm not sure what you consider to be "real" music.

I am relatively certain that Run-DMC pulled Aerosmith out of the descending spiral they were in.

Of course... Aerosmith may not make "real" music either.

I'm no fan of rap.  You can call it poetry, or a chant or whatever else you want to call it.  Just don't call it "music."

See how wrong your stero-type paint brush is Prawn?  If he was 60, then he'd have grown up during the 1960's, and AARP supports the Democratic party :D

AAAAAAA-men Brother!  The funny part about rap, anyone with offensive enough lyrics can be a star. Sign of the times?  maybe.  Coincidence?  I think not....

Music reduced to its primal form.... just the beat and the words.

Plus almost anything can be made to rhyme....

mutha'd
rutha
hava
notha

Ain't that beautiful.

I guess I hate rap almost as much as my Dad hated the Greatful Dead.
