And Arnky, if you are saying that there are no choices in the MA, then you are not using your imagination enough.

I'm saying there are no choices *but* the MA, and the MA sucks.

While congratulating the many who of course had no chance of besting you in a 1v1 engagement, make sure to thank all those who allowed themselves to be killed while taking off from an airfield with no functioning flak and 10 of your 'elite' friends hovering nearby. You at least owe those vulching victims *some* credit for your pretty K/D ratio. Of couse this applies to more 'elite' 'pilots' of AH than just you...

Anrky, bud we've known each other for a long time, but I gotta disagree with you.

This thread started out as a debate about gangbanging, but has somehow mutated into a complaint about the dweebish MA, you view on events, and how the CT is a wasteland.

The MA is the MA, and its the same everywhere. AirWarrior, Warbirds, FighterAce, and Aces High. Its all the same gaming the game mentality, with only slight differences.

My opinon on the CT is that it isn't my cup o tea, but if others enjoy it, thats fine. But the problem is that if you put 3 CT fliers in the same room, you'll get 5 opinons on how it should be setup and what it needs to be a success. To me (and to many others obviously) its too exclusionary and isn't what I look for to have fun.

Events. Well, I'm not involved in the events here like I use to be due to my personal life taking up alot of time. And I don't help put on the AW Scenarios like I use too either. But I definitely know how much work goes into one.  One of the biggest problems is that there are only a very few people who want to do the work to hold a scenario, and tons of people who want to participate.  Maybe if some of the interested parties would step forward and offer to help, things would go better.

And AW has had 4 full blown scenarios since January? Wow. Not only is that amazing from the logistic stand point of finding enough people to run the things, but I'm amazed that they still draw enough people to actually fill all the flight spots. The last time I was involved over there, they had actually burnt out the scenario crowd, and attendance was so low, they could hardly fly each frame due to low attendance.

*S* to them.

Where am I going with all this? toejam I honestly don't know since the debate has shifted about 15 times in this thread  ;)

Yep, and we've had this same argument before, too.  Don't know why I started agruing it again, unless it's the new level of burnout I think I've just achieved.

How true.   :(  I wish one of these games would step up to the plate, and try something new, original, and fun, instead of just another variation of AW arena play that's evolved little since long before I started playing.

-------------------------------------
My opinon on the CT is that it isn't my cup o tea, but ...
-------------------------------------

My opinion on the CT is that Historical Arena is an oxymoron, even if you call it Combat Theater.

------------------------------------------
...Maybe if some of the interested parties would step forward and offer to help, things would go better.
------------------------------------------

The other day, when daddog posted that the TOD was canceled because of lack of CMs, I immedietly fired off a message to him, volunteering my time to do anything they needed, even if it was just sitting out many of the frames, watching the door--no matter how boring or meinal.  This was before any of the posts asking for volunteers for the CM team.  He sent me a message back, saying he'd get my name put on the volunteer list.  I said sure, and if you don't need me now, keep my name in mind for the future.

Truthfully, I'm just as glad I wasn't accepted, because I *know* these things are a lot of work.  My offer still stands, though.  I've got winter coming up, and probably a lot more free time on my hands.  And I want events to work and become popular more than anything else in AH.

--------------------------------------------
And AW has had 4 full blown scenarios since January?
--------------------------------------------

I was thinking, and I can only think of three--Niemen, Rhur, and the one they just started the other day.  I really think I'm forgetting one, though.  Don't keep up with AW much anymore.  (edit:  Oh yeah, they re-did that Pearl Harbor one again)

Anyway, I'm burned out, bored, and can't find another game that'll keep my mind off AH for awhile.

Just so ya know Anrky... As far as the large multi-frame scenarios go, we've been developing the next one for quite some time, but it became apparent that it would be ready at about the same time as 1.08's release. Since this release has been just on verge of coming out, we thought it would be better to push the scenario ahead a bit so we could take advantage of the new features like towns, railroads, new planes etc. I mean, it would be kind of a shame to ignore these features in the scenario. So... there's been a bit of a delay there... but as soon as 1.08 comes out we'll crank into high gear and start registration very shortly afterwards.

Also, we've decided to run these in a different format.... Compressed down from 4 frames over four weeks to 4 frames over 2 days, allowing us to develop these scenarios with a lot less wait in between. I'm hoping to run one every three months.

Urchin,

You die if you make a mistake.  You die if you don't watch your six.  You die if you don't grab alt before engaging bad guys.  You die if you get low and slow in a furball.  You die if you get bounced by someone who stalked you from high alt.  You die... in heaps of many other ways.

In short, quit telling other people how to play so that you (or your countrymates) get shot down less.  Maybe you need to look at how you play the game and make some changes there if this fact is getting you so worked up.

Coming onto this board and whining (there is no softer word for your post) will not move people to change anything.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: "Live with it.  Enjoy the game.  Quit whining."

Damn, I try to lay down and go to sleep, but your two frames a day comment got my mind a racin'.

Is there going to be any down time between the frames, or you just going to go from one frame to the next and try to do them both in 4 hours?  Or are you going to shorten the frames?  I remember a post asking if we could do 4 hours, 2 days in a row, so I'm assuming they'll still be 2 hour frames?  Are they going to be 2 days in a row, or spread out over 2 weekends?

Even with no down time in between, it's still usually at least 1/2 hour or more getting squads organized and walkons assigned added to the 4 hours, with maybe 10-15 mins afterwards collecting aars for some squads that don't die early.  (maybe you're getting rid of the need for pilots to give aars, and taking all info from the logs like in the TODs?) Isn't nearly 5 hours (more if there's down time between the frames) a looong time to keep people interested, especially in an environment where scenarios aren't all that popluar?  I remember suggesting a 3/hour a day, 2 day event for AW once, and the greatest amount of feedback I got was, 'too long'.  (even though there had just been a 2 phase, 5 frame per phase scenario; and not long before that one, a 3 phase, 6 frame per phase scenario, all 2 hour frames, though )

And how about the people who die early in the first frame?  Do you expect problems getting them to come back an hour or more later for the next frame?  Especially since it's entirely possible (even likely) for many to get pissed about something that happened and decide to quit, without enough time to cool off and change their mind?

How about walkons?  (I'm assuming there will be walkons in a large scenario)  Are they going to be assigned at the start of the first frame, and expected to stay through both, or will there be a second chance for walkons to get a ride before the second frame that day?

And how about planning?  Is there going to be any room for the first frame to affect what happens in the next frame(s), thus requiring updated plans, or even new mission plans?  Or are the two frames going to be fairly static, allowing planning to be done for both frames before game day?

I 'think' that's all for now, except for the biggest question, and I already know the answer to that one--two weeks.  ;)

Hopefully I won't wake up in an hour with more questions.

It's going to be interesting to see how it's done, and watch how it goes.

Yep, brain won't quit, can't sleep  :(

----------------------------------------

Does this mean that you have some inside info on roughly when 1.08'll be out?  I mean, the 'it's out!' trolls have been going on surely over a month now, and it's seemed to me, and obviously many others that it could be out any time.

But...for all I, or anyone else but HTC knows, it could be another month, or two...

-------------------------------------------
Since this release has been just on verge of coming out,
------------------------------------------

You know something, or are you just guessing?

It doesn't seem wise to me to hold off a scenario indefinately, just for a few extra toys that may, or may not work as expected when we get them.

That is, unless you know something.   :)

While the CMs sometimes get a bit of inside info, we never knew and still don't know exactly when 1.08 will be released. That being said... Looking at how long it takes to go through the creation stage of the scenario, then through to registration - it was pretty much a no brainer that the scenario was gonna hit pretty darn near 1.08's release. And like I said above, it'd just be a shame if we came out with a scenario that didn't incorporate any of the new planes, the trains, the towns and convoys etc. They are gonna be fantastic and I want everyone to be able to blow all this stuff up.

As for the format... We're still honing in on it a bit, but we're looking at two ways of going about it. One way is to do the traditional frame/pause/frame/pause thing... and another thing we've been kicking around is a sort of real time battle extending over a period of 4-6 hours/day. Each squad will have a specific schedule (ie. your 1st sortie will begin at 2:15pm and you'll be flying a second one at 3:40pm)... And what happens over the entire day is a constant stream of battles, all coordinated by a command staff - giving you your mission orders on the fly based on AARs & BDAs as they are recieved. Very fluid. And while overall the fighting will stretch over quite a while - individually it wont be too taxing for people that can't spend that ammount of time in front of their computer. They'll know their time slots in advance, and can sign up for as much or as little as they want.

At the end of the 1st day there will obviously be a pause where each side can assess the situation more completely and put together thier planning for the following day.

Hhm... I hope this answers your questions ok.

Sorry if this thread got hijacked, Urchin. But it sucked anyway.  :)
