best fishing around here is during overcast, snow or dark

those pesky troutskis, the big ones, are just too damned picky/spooky when it's sunny!

Everyone thinks fly-fishing is about casting .. it's not.
it's about fishing.. knowing how to create a drag-free drift, how to let it bounce along the bottom, how to locate and see the fish before you cast..
ok.. except in ultra-smooth water on sunny days..
then it's all about presentation (I.E. casting skill, not distance.. but skill (accurace, soft presentation)
that movie, A river runs through it, it so hokey. It's ruined more than one newbie fly fisherman that thinks it's about casting.. or the "shadow" cast.. lol just too much false casting is all a 'shadow' cast is. It's the absolutely BEST way to spook a trout so he won't bite.
