Play this film, as it is... without using the "manual" view.

This is how my Joystick works.... I want all of you to see/understand why mouse view is really REALLY a good thing.

What you need to do for those that are not sure how to view this,....

Copy this File into your Il2/Records directory in order to view it.

typically this should be C:\program files\ubisoft\il2 sturmovik\records\

You can also use this type of viewing system in aces high.
Its a pretty good fight for all to enjoy....

D/led it, gonna watch it tonite...

I am curious though, is it comfortable (your js mod) and does it just as easy as using the hat? If I don't have my thumb on the mouse ball, while performing violent manuevers (joystick moving every which way quickly) will the ball move (just enuff) and the view slightly move around?

Interesting film. Your use of zoom just about drove me nuts but you are able to keep track of the bad guy as well as you can in AH.
I might have to try again with my mouse stick on the cougar.

heya Swulf, naw it dont move around at all really..

But.. Because i bulit it this way... and how I fly.. I am always in a constant scan of sorts... so my thumb.. I leave it on there..

Its pretty much an Extension of my head now lol... So the second I think I want to look anywhere.. I just slightly move my thumb.

I made it so its ergonomic also.. so it never tires you out or anything..

The funny thing is.. the Entire Supporting portion is. made from a "Coat hanger" that I bent all up.. to shizzite... forming it.. to the contours of the X-45 so as to feel as if its not even there whilst giving great support.

With the last of my js hats failing on my X36... this looks like a better alternative than buying an entirely new X36 or X45... in the film it looked like it was pretty easy to keep the P39 in view...

Russian. Your trak totally validates the critisism of the view system in IL2. you lost view of the enemy repeatedly behind struts which jbroey was able to see arround using his mouse ball. On most every merge you lost the p39. Finaly you gave up looking for him. Il2s view system needs work for sure.

Mouselook is the way to go.

Pls have a look at what can be done with the trackIR infrared headtracking device. Move your head to move the view. Fully scalable WRT speedsettings. Real handsfree viewing throughout the whole trk.

Oh forgot to mention. It works also like this in AH. but mouslook in AH is a PITA to setup properly. I can only wonder Why?

Even though I lost my target 1 time, it still feels more realistic. I did get him in the end

Dunno about jbroey but i'm not not talking about that

Can only comment on the mouselooking device i use. Which is the trackIR. It detects headmovment by means of a little IR camera which sits on top of my montor and a reflective dot or reflective sticky tape which many trackIR users stick to the bridge of pair of glasses or the mic booms of their headset. The reflective dot reflects the IR light back to the camera.

That way when they move their head, the mousecursor (and in the case of mouselook, the view) moves. Adds another dimension to simming. I quickly made the trk specially for this thread so don't mind the dogfighting

. Simply to show what it looks like for me to be using mouseview and specifically trackIR as mouse.

Hey DNME very cool, video seems very "familiar" hehe.

I made my "mouseball in a stick" setup before Track IR existed though.

But yes I like how your system works.. as far as my mine, it is about 99.999% the same

I only have to move my thumb approximantly 2mm up/down/left/right/everywhere... etc.. for the movments.

Also! a very good aspect of my creation is .. it only costed 20$$

I don't know how long trackIR exists but it's been there for a while now. I've already used it for nearly 2 years now. It was brought to my attention by yet another simmer who used it in Rowan's BoB and EAW.

I must admit that, it was quite a gamble for me to purchase it in the first place, coz i didn't know how i would like it. And there were very few trackIR users then. In fact i think i was among the first in IL2. And you're right, i also thought it was expensive when i bought it.

OTOH, i can honestly say that as a simmer it's been the best thing i ever bought for my hobby! I kid you not. It adds immersion and a feel that is hard to describe. Handsfree natural headmovement viewing is what trackIR offers above the "hands on" viewing systems. Difficult to describe and can prolly only be experienced if you try it yourself.

In any case, from what i remember, your stick setup looked real good as well. The main thing is that mouselook is the way to look in sims. I'd hate to go back to snapviews even though they are very good in Aces High.
