Bomber Perk planes
« on: November 05, 2002, 10:38:15 PM »
HI all, I just flew a sortie in a goon to get a base and got 12.5 perkies.  As for what I can use them on, since I dont like the rocket bomber I have no idea.  I would love to see a few bombers with perks to spend on. I had a few ideas to use.

1.  Radar equiped Lancs!  THey had limited use in WWII but they could be real usefull over enemy territory or when a HQ gets taken out.

2.  Yep a B29! I suggest two versions. One will be a standard with large payload and the motorized turrets, for about 50-100 Perkies. The Seconde version would be a atom bomb equiped version with one bomb with a large area of effect. On the plus side it wipes out a base, AND on the negative side the base is down for 30 minutes with NO RESUPPLY to lessen the effects. It will make thier use less attractive. THis version would be the 262 of bombers and cost 250-300 perkies.

Well those are my two cents please reply and let me know what you think. Maybee we can convince HT to include it in the next version.  :)

AH sure needs more perk bombers, and also some perk gvs.

I hear that 1.11 will involved perk gvs, so hopfully 1.12 or 1.13 will add some more perk bombers.

Does anyone have a pic of a LancWACS?

if there was a b29 with atombomb I'd like it to have 2000 perks or so...

I love the idea of an A-bomb carrying B-29.
It should cost a lot of perkies, but it would really require a side to get up and defend or intercept the bomber.
We do need more perk bombers and this would be a great addition.
(and bring on the B-24 and He-111 too. The B-24 because it carried more bombs than the 17 but had better guns than the Lanc and the He-111 just 'cause it was one of the coolest looking planes of the war. Spitfires need to eat something.)

Well you can't really make an "A-bomb equipped B-29" a perked plane itself, since landing the plane wouldn't cost you the perks, so you'd have to make the A-bomb a selectable payload and make IT cost additional perks aside from the plane.

Honestly I think that bringing nuclear weapons into the game would draw a lot of unwanted negative attention to AH.  No matter how you slice it, there are lots of people out there that take a dim view of any mention of an atomic weapon that doesn't start out with "bomb BAD!".

Though in gameplay, it might prove interesting, I don't think it's worth ticking off a lot of anti-nuke people or Japanese people.

hmm, a-bomb was only used 3 times, once in testing, twice against the enemy

thats only 2 times against the enemy during the war!

if we get the a bomb, time for some rare LW planes!

Utility aside, I still think it's PR suicide.

There are plenty of other flight sims w/ A-Bombs.  Heck, I remember dropping a nuke on Honolulu in F/A-18 Hornet back in 1996.

Various half-life mods have atomic explosions in them that are set off by players, along with many other games.

Why do you think getting them in AH would be any different?  It just doesn't make any sense.

How would you like to loose your formation of 2000perk B-29s to killshooter after dropping an A-bomb.  I can hear the whines already. Should never be added IMHO because it will make a great deal of bad PR.

B29 without a-bombs would be very very cool.  It would probably have difficulties taking off from our relatively short runways though.

Ok, here are my fleshed out reasons for my worries over the AH image with the A-bomb.

The Enola Gay is a historical sore point as evidenced by the fracas over the exhibit of the Enola Gay years ago.  So, to clarify the bit about the difference with or without the a-bomb--

1.  AH is a mostly historical flight sim. (Pie Map, modeling and killshooter gripes aside)

2.  A real  B29 dropped a real a-bomb on real people way back when.

3.  American citizens and politicians in the real world do still catch crap for Hiroshima and Nagasaki even today.

So, my point is this a lot more controversial than the violence level of a sheer fantasy like Half-Life. (personally I think that game rocks)

Now, none of this is a reflection of  my personal views on the subject of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  I just worry that somebody might try to make an example of AH.

Certainly people have declaimed and campaigned against things as varied as: Bert and Ernie, the Teletubbies, Pokemon, the Washington Redskins.  They had their reasons both moral and fiscal.

If I were running a business, trying to make money, I'd avoid that situation.

That's all I wanted ta say.  'S food for thought.

why in the world would anyone want a nuc in this game? What challenge would that be?

But a B29 on the other hand..sweet:)

anyway, you don't need a nuke, a grandslam or tall boy (which was on the b29 also) off a lanc mk 1 special would do it
