HTC, Play with the MA!
« on: November 06, 2002, 10:45:30 AM »
At the beginning, or end, of each tour have a 3-4 day period where scores aren't tabulated and experiment with all the different settings in the MA.

Like:
Side Balancing techniques
Perk Values
Radar Settings
Icon settings
Damage settings
Fuel settings
Etc.

Anyway, the point is to try alot of different things in a manner that everyone nows what is happening and when it is happening and won't effect scores.

I for one would enjoy being a lab rat.

If you want to be a lab rat, I'm sure SOB has uses for you (cfr: the link to the religious "joystick" posted here a few days ago.)

MA as a lab will not happen, too many complaints. Would work in a separate arena tho... I wouldn't mind trying' new stuff out(AH related!)

How about designating a "free perk ride" day each tour. It could either be the last/first day of the tour -or- make it a random unannounced event that encourages peeps to log in daily and check for it.

thats the point Saw.  i think HTC is afraid to dick around with it.

a few days out of the month would be no big deal.  especially if we knew when it would happen and it would not effect the "tour stats".

so many interesting things to see.

like what happens if 1k bombs for fighters cost a perk point?  what if damage is repaired in a hanger for perks based on amount of damage? what if fighter to fighter gun damage were toned down or up?  what if.....

maybe some of these are not tweaks, but actual changes in code.  i dunno.

What would happen if the la7 were perked?  The spit14 or 152 unperked?  If perk gangbang tags were gone?

As much as you can argue about the results of any change, for the most part, nobody knows what effect said change would have.  Giving them a try would answer some of the questions.

Furious- some of those require changing the code, some are just a value they switch.

Either way, did you use to play WB?

There was a huge fiasco with them dicking around with the damage model (or the damage multiplier I guess)...

Innonimate- Giving them a try would answer some of the questions.

And a lot of squeaking will ensue as well. :(

There is experimentation on whatever wierd scale you can imagine in CT.   You may be surprised to know that all the things on your list and more are (and have already been) done.

name one change to the game that wasnt followed by a lot of squeaking?

One sadly depressing aspect of online games is, no matter what you do, people will squeak about it, even if it is a change that they'll enjoy once they get used to it.

A saying that used to be heard from Kesmai employees, with regards to AW players (applies to any game players):

"We could get them all laid and they'd still complain"

lol jab, so true.

The REAL challenge of working in online games is figuring out what complaints are valid, and what complaints aren't.

So everyone will get really squeaky at "that time of the month" ... don't we all get enough of that at home already? :D

Does anyone still have the "All Players Are Rats" speech?  I know it popped its head up during the Big Week scenario...
