Lanc set's speed record
« on: November 11, 2001, 08:48:00 PM »
Got home from work yesterday and sat down to play a bit.  Right off the bat, noticed a dot in the Knits HQ sector so I grabbed a 152 and headed on up.  Up and Up I went till I found the dot, a lancaster, at 32k.  I made 2 passes and miss judged my nose so I didn't land the shots I wanted.  Then all the sudden Mr. Lanc, dives.

Yep, dives from 32k, to 25k before he level's out again.  I dove about about 5-10 seconds after he did and reached a nice 550mph...buffeting up and down like an old woman riding a donkey.

Funny thing is I wasn't quickly catching up to him.  he was 2.2k away and it took me about 30 seconds to get down on him.  2.1k...........2.0......geez. ....1.9k.......

Finally killed him but he never would answer me to how fast he was going.  Dude had to be nearing 400mph...only way I could accurately explain it...oh well...seen stranger things.

Never had a lanc to 400, but I've been to 340 in one.   :)

The other day, after a mission in a lanc
I had to blow alt quick to get home and
replane, in a flat dive it got close to
400 mph without loosing anything, but
it was shaking bad, and yes I was suprised
that it could do it. considering the cards
say about 280 level speed at 14 and 20K feet.

Real Lancs were capable of diving to over 400 mph without problems.  The (conservative) dive limit speed in the Pilot's Notes is 360 mph IAS.  At 25k' that is about 540 mph TAS.   :)

Hehehe  :)

I perfected (offline) a similar escape maneuver for the Ar 234.  Intentionally pull the wings off and you pick up a few mph.   :D
The problem is landing it.  It's like landing the Space Shuttle.   :)

Ah, I had 420 TAS in a Lanc yesterday without any creaking, didn't want to push it any further but that's the fastest I've been in one, especially without creaks!
