McGuire AFB Static display of Pudgy P-38
« on: November 08, 2002, 03:19:51 PM »
Hi everyone,  I'm stationed at Mcguire AFB, NJ.  We are starting to restore our P-38.  She is a thing of beauty.  I got a chance to see her up close.  I WAS AMAZED how big she is.    I took some photos for everyone.  see below:  HTC or anyone else want to see more let me know I will send them to you.  Also If you want the history of this specific 38 l can post the article from our base paper.  This not the real Pudgy.

I would love to see a p38 one day.  52' wingspan probably provides a good amount of shade :)

I got the chance to see the P-38L at the USAF museum. It's even more beautiful than in any photo.

There used to be a P-38 on a stanchion in the middle of the traffic circle on the base, is that the one they are restoring? I have pix somewhere of that one from a open house they had there a few years back. I guess I'll have to look for them, if I find them I'll post them.

You bet she's the one.  The engines are preserved and ready.  Needs new props and flt. control cables.

I was stationed there for 3 years.

It's about time they got that thing off display rotting in the sun.

FYI. They have a Me262 in Willow Grove Pa. and they are restoring a P-61 in Reading Pa.

Thats 3 rare birds all within an 1.5 Hours of me. Can't wait to see them.
