No wonder the democrats keep losing to Bush. They have built up such a mindset of his stupidity and incompetnance in their circles that they just go into denial every time he trumps them, so it's natural to call their every defeat a victory. Strange as it may seem to BBS readers, I'm not a republican or even a true conservative on the issues and certainly not all that partisan. But I must admit I got a kick out of watching Terry McAuliffe jumping through hoops in an attempt to spin the Tuesday elections as a victory for dems and, yes most certainly, yet another in a long series of dramatic defeats for the idiot Bush.
The Democratic party has been reduced to largely useless stalling position in US politics, they have no message, no soul, and really nothing to offer as an alternative to the republicans. Worse yet, they will now be pressured to turn left as their fringe leftist idealogues have allready started blaming the defeats on a supposed Clinton style centrist trend. This might well be true but I am left wondering if it was matter of this centrist postion or the dems utter lack of a popular, charismatic spokesman and leader, yes leader, like Clinton. Al Gore, Hillary, Daschle, Pelosi, Sharpton, Je$$e Jack$on and the fake, glossy, used car salesman McAuliffe are not such leaders. It would be nice to have a counterpart in government to check the Republicans, if for no other reason than to maintain the US tradition, but the current democrats do not provide that. They masquarade their fearful stalling tactics as some some sort of coherent opposition while biding for time and some leadership. If that new democrat "leadership" rises from the far left and brings us more of the same old tired appeals to racism and class struggle well that can only lead to more Bush victories, uhh I mean Bush defeats...
