As it is right now, planes are drawn as simple black dots when they are within con range but not close enough to actually require the model to be drawn.

Would it be possible to (pre)calculate two colors, one being an average of all the colors used in the upper half paint scheme (what you see from above a plane) and the other being the average of the lower half paint scheme (what you see from below a plane).

These colors could then be used instead of the black dot color depending on whether the con is above or below the spotter. These two colors should also be adjusted according to the present lighting conditions.

IMO this would add some meaning to camouflage paints on all planes and vehicles. On the other hand, it'll make spotting planes a tad more difficult which, depending on the arena, might not be to everyone's taste.

Not sure what you are referring to Amboss.   I can usually tell if the con I'm approaching is a P51,  P38 , or even the P47 before its in icon range because of the silver,  and you can usually spot a C47 way before you get an icon because of the big invasion strips on it.   The may be other examples of other planes also, but those come immediatly to mind.

He's talking about when they're still one pixel dots. its usually pretty easy to see the black dot on a light blue sky. If the dots were colored depending on the color of their camo it would be harder to see in most instances.

once your in range where the 3d model shows up, you can see the camo color quite clearly (or lack of, in the case of 51's and such).

Now I see what he's saying.
so if I'm flying a 205 low on the AK map there's a good chance someone higher than me wouldnt be able to see me because I would be a tan colored pixel,  or in a 110 on the Baltic map I would be a green pixel.   Instead of now where everyone is a black dot and a black dot shows up pretty good against desert or on the water.

Sounds good to me as long as I get to fly a light blue coloured Mustang. The RCAF and probably the RAF had some painted that colour at the end of the war.

I think in AH that long distance plane spoting in general is much too easy compared to real life.  There would be some bad impacts to the game to consider before adding that kind of realism the MA.

It would definatly be a good thing for the CT.  This would be great in combination with reduced icon range so that we would have to identify the plane with our own eyes rather than being able to rely on the icon.  In this case, people using 1600x1200 would have a strong advantage over people using lesser resolutions, which could be unbalancing.
