I think it is the way the collistion detection works.  Even if you are moving at .00001 mph and your wingtip brushes against the superstructure or the deck, you blow up.  Not damaged, but a full on firework.

(Part two)
Two words.

SPELL CHECKER

Obviously if you're exploding they're not perfect landings.

The only time I ever have a problem with carrier landings is when I'm lined up to land and then the carrier starts to turn.  Most of the time, I manage to touch down fine anyway, but for some reason, even AFTER the plane touches down and is arrested by the hook, it just explodes.

The modelling of the way planes behave while on the deck of a turning carrier is really bad.  As long as the wheels are on the deck, you shouldn't slide around like you do in AH.  You move WITH the carrier until you lift off.

There was a bug when the carriers first came out that if you hit one of the first few wires, it would sling shot you off the deck.

I've noticed that if you land on the carrier while its turning that you still get sling shot off the stern. Or blow up.

I know what he is talking about. Take the seafire up and land that puppy on the CV. Come in harder than a feather and you explode. I only get this with the seafire, I land everything else (even land bases aircraft) on the CV no problem, but the seafire explodes about 80% of the time. Seafire lands fine on a runway though.

That bug still exists... happened to me twice this tour.  I shouldn't even bother putting down my hook and maybe I wouldn't be catapulted off the back anymore.

Is it a speed thing? I've had a couple of Seafires blow up to rough landings which is to be expected. Others I've done perfect touchdowns and blown up thought WTF! looked at the film and realised I'm coming in a bit fast.

Sounds like you must be coming in way too fast.  You should be able to set the Seafire down on the deck without the hook, and still stay in the area of the arresting wires with little trouble.  It might be that coming in really fast tears the hook off and instantly kills you (haven't tried this though).
