On a side note, the reason for using the Shepherds Tavern is that during WWII it was the unofficial mess for Pilots on leave in London.
On a previous visit a woman in her late 70's regaled us with stories of drunken parties and hi jinks carried out by same pilots, also under a layer of wall paper on the ceiling are alledgedly the signatures etc of those pilots that visited, very similar to the Pub (forget the name) in Cambridge town centre that is covered in American pilots signatures, mottos etc.
It's an interesting place to meet, not far from Park Lane.
