Agreed. When submarines are added, this will move higher on the priority list, I suspect. HTC has already said there will need to be some kind of player-controlled ASW platform (a destroyer, most likely). But unless we have seaborne commerce, i.e. cargo ships/tankers/troopships, subs will not be worth the effort. That in turn means those non-warships will have to have some strategic purpose in the game, else no one will bother attacking or defending them after the novelty of subs wears off.
I'd also like to see fleet support ships added to CV task groups, such as an amphibious assault ship, an ammo ship, a tanker, and a troop transport. Damaging or killing them would affect ops from the fleet in the same way as destroy field objects would. Sink the ammo ship, and no A2G ord for a/c; sink the troop transport, and no troops for your LVT's. Sink the amphib assault ship? Guess what...no LVT's.
Oh yes, and a real damage model for ships, instead of the all-or-nothing scheme used now. The list goes on and on.
