Time to go

Salute all

I am resigning from the CT Staff.  As well I am going to cancel my AH subscription at the end of this setup week.

I was one of the four original CT Staffers appointed by Pyro nearly 2 years ago.  (think Sabre is the only other one left)

Before that I was very active in pushing for a historically based Arena, as well as earlier war aircraft to allow earlier setups.

I was also a CM on the Scenario Team and designed TOD's, Snapshots and the "INVASION SICILY" Scenario.

When the CT started I had a lot of optimism about what it could be.

Now I am less certain.

There are inherent limitations in the game system which affect the ability of a CT Staff member to create Setups, but more importantly, there is the human factor.

A big salute to those who created setups, and particularly those who created Maps.  You are the lifeblood of this Arena, and the main reason it is still in existence.

But all the effort by these people mean nothing without players.

The CT stands or falls on the participation and behaviour of the people who fly in it.

Up to this point, participation has been a big dissappointment for me.

The largest numbers I have ever seen in the CT were 80, for an early BoB setup, and the first time Tunisia was up.

Most of the time the peaks for a week are below 50.  Most of the time numbers are around 20, declining to 10 on off hours.

It is pretty clear to me that the average player in AH is not interested in Historical Setups.   They want to fly in the MA, to be able to fly their own particular favourite plane, anytime they want.

They don't want to have to learn a different plane, they don't want to be challenged.

With the numbers where they are, and with the attitudes of the majority not likely to change, at a certain point one has to ask oneself:  "Is this really worth the time and effort put into it?"

I'm not sure.  For myself personally, not any more.

Thanks for all you have done Buzzbait!

Looking at the reasons CMs have quit in the past, and considering how hard this volunteer job is, I think quitting is probably a good choice.  You deserve more for for your efforts.

I think quitting AH, however, is a bad idea.  Try the game without any weight on your sholders.  Try playing only, at least for awhile.  The CT is still fun if you don't get caught up in all of the politics.

The less serious you make this game, the more fun it is.

Hoping you stay as a player,

eskimo

Buzzbait,

Please don't cancel your subscription over the BS that has transpired here over the last few days.  I understand your frusteration and exasperation, but don't let it lead you to a decision that would not have been made under normal circumstances.

If you must cancel your subscription, please check back in when the Mission Theatre is here and see if what you are looking for has arrived.

Take care.

Sorry to see you go:(

I used to help the CT staffers with maps, but they left and I wasn't being asked to help any more.

Tuff shoes to fill in a thankless job.

dont let the door hit your as......

Oh wait, j/k

Its gotta be dissappointing not getting the numbers, but....  I would have stopped playing AH if the CT hadnt shown up.  I think there have been many like that, transients as well.  Many just need a break from the MA and this is a good place.  Personally I think the CT is best when it is under 50.

I wouldn't be in AH without the CT.  At 50, it is by far the most populated historical arena out there.

S!

I'm not resigning because of any one incident or person.

I'm just burnt out on AH

Not excited by the possibilities anymore.

Better to let someone else who is interested take a shot.

I like the CT pretty much the way it is, lame setups and all.

It is my pressure relief valve when the MA sucks, as it frequently does.

As far as bagging it buzz, life is both frustratingly complex yet intollerably simple.  Make of it what you will.

:(

Sorry to see you hang it up, Buzz.    I'm sure v1.11 is right around the corner, and who knows, (apart from the Tiger tank) what new vehicles might be coming to give the CT just the lift it needs.

and thank you for your service to us and the CT.   The Combat Theater is what brought me back to AH.

Even the event CO's are letting TBM's be used as fighters at 25k in midway, we will never get away from the main:(

On behalf of the CT staff, please accept this (vitual) gold watch, as token of our esteem and appreciation.  Got to say, I'm definitely feeling like the old man of the group.  Don't stay away too long, buddy.

buzz

thanks for your time and effort - take a break, it'll be better when you come back

as for numbers in CT - its quality vs quantity

rather up in CT with 3 either each side than MA with 200 on each of the three sides.
Have found MA best - before work, around 6:30 EST when it has about 75 ppl in it
