Salute all
I am resigning from the CT Staff. As well I am going to cancel my AH subscription at the end of this setup week.
I was one of the four original CT Staffers appointed by Pyro nearly 2 years ago. (think Sabre is the only other one left)
Before that I was very active in pushing for a historically based Arena, as well as earlier war aircraft to allow earlier setups.
I was also a CM on the Scenario Team and designed TOD's, Snapshots and the "INVASION SICILY" Scenario.
When the CT started I had a lot of optimism about what it could be.
Now I am less certain.
There are inherent limitations in the game system which affect the ability of a CT Staff member to create Setups, but more importantly, there is the human factor.
A big salute to those who created setups, and particularly those who created Maps. You are the lifeblood of this Arena, and the main reason it is still in existence.
But all the effort by these people mean nothing without players.
The CT stands or falls on the participation and behaviour of the people who fly in it.
Up to this point, participation has been a big dissappointment for me.
The largest numbers I have ever seen in the CT were 80, for an early BoB setup, and the first time Tunisia was up.
Most of the time the peaks for a week are below 50. Most of the time numbers are around 20, declining to 10 on off hours.
It is pretty clear to me that the average player in AH is not interested in Historical Setups. They want to fly in the MA, to be able to fly their own particular favourite plane, anytime they want.
They don't want to have to learn a different plane, they don't want to be challenged.
With the numbers where they are, and with the attitudes of the majority not likely to change, at a certain point one has to ask oneself: "Is this really worth the time and effort put into it?"
I'm not sure. For myself personally, not any more.
Good luck Buzzbait
