Lone Hunting.. A BLAST!
« on: November 18, 2002, 06:25:20 AM »
Did you ever push away from the PC, rub burning red eyes, look at the clock and realize:  Holly toejam! I've been flyng AH all day! (night? afternoon? whatever..)

And, you are just bone tired of the same old loop, ie: liftoff, head into the furball, or climb high to pick off stragglers, dive, turn, loop, bang.. Repeat, over n' over n' over again?

For a kick, I switched sides (to rooks always short-handed)..  A good AH pal of mine is now the nme, and we methodically try to hunt each other.

You can also do this with any player, and it's a real hoot trying to specifically hunt n' kill an individual (virtually speaking), especially any players in the top 200..  They are good, and they are slippery ~

So rather than squander another mindless afternoon of turn-shoot-turn-shoot,, I sat in the tower waiting for my pal (he's a top 200 guy.. name with-held) to land some kills.

"SYSTEM: PAL has landed 6 victories in a P51-B"

Ah-HA! He's perk hunting in a 51, B model, and gotta' be in a massive furball to score 6 kills.. just landed and will be taking off immediately for more ~

Found the biggest Red/Green DAR sector, our 2 sides skirmishing over the water between to airbases..  Picked an assasins favorite, the La7 and climbed to a 12k perch.  Loosely computed his possible ETE/ETA and altitude and flew over many easy low-slow targets (oh so tempting) to this theoretical merge point.

Tipped the wing and looked down at the swirling furball below.. 15 or 20 planes tangling like mad bees.

Of the red mess, one icon stood out. The only P51 in the bunch!  I watched him make 2 kills, and exit the fray,, low n' slow.  Zoomed down, and I'll be dipped if the wings didn't have the white stripes of a "B" model!!  One burst blew him up.

OH what a rush! (the actually fight was lame, but the 1 hour hunt was exhilerting)..

He cursed me, all in good humor of course.  Elated, I headed to the mad bee-hive at his nearby airbase where fighters were literally streaming off the runways.

What the heck, may as well make one suicidal pass at the spawn point, now just a huge blob or red icons atop each other..

As I bore in, they all taxied off the runway in differant directions,, I was going to fast to jink or adjust my aim and just pressed the trigger.

As the bullets started to impact, there was 1 single nme plane on the spawn point..  A P51 "B".

He popped like an M80 on 4th of July!  He cursed me (this time, not is such good humor.. MOOhahaa!)

Suffice it to say that this measly 10 minute flight was more rewarding than any other I've had.

Try it some time.. for a monotony break.

I once played a game for 36 hours straight.  And my eyes only start to burn without the warm glow of a CRT on them.

You didn't say who the unlucky sap was!  What sort of Dumb-Luck does one need to have such fortunes bless them all on a single day, in a single hour, in a single 5 minute span?  Wait a minute...heeeeeeey....sounds like someone i know.  Don't see em often, only when i look in the mirror :P

rv6, i still have the trophy ya dweeb :P

our squad does this with the III/Jg. 26 Widowmakers sometimes.... on the squad level. both knowing full well what we are doing though :) (usualy about 2-4 players online with each squad)

both up @ nearby fields with a fight going on and try to pick out which is the other.

it can be some real fun... + we spam CH#1 all the time with our bragging to eachother (sry to anyone that gets bored with it :D). sometimes we even go on mutual VOX like channel 250 or something so we can all talk to eachother.

oh well my 2¢
I don't know what to put here yet.

20 hours straight for me couple years ago, is my personal record.  Woke up at 4 am and saw Knits had 2 fields left...we won the reset 5 hours later, and won two more by the end of the 20 hours....ahhh, those were the days.

Ah yes,,  I've located a screenie of that historic moment, Golfer dude.  Lemme, narrate the photo below..

P51 goes into deep series of loop-dee-loops,  dropping & raising flaps, in frantic attempts to HO the masterfully flown, and Highly modified RV6  Experimental  (MOOOahahhaaa!)

Note Golfers fuselage being lit up like the white-house Christmas tree, with dead-nuts aimed canon-aide fire ~

I was careful NOT to strike the cockpit so as to injur such a worthy opponent.. And simply chipped away the airframe, avoiding any/all of his last ditch HO attempts ~ (I need some golf & RC lessons from him!)

(boy, if this don't get a response from him, NOTHING will!)

Since when do you fly 190s?  Are you suuuuure thats me?  it could be an imposter.  last time you killed me i think it was in a headon in your LAMER LAFFER LALA 7.   So i'm the H.O. king now, eh?  what abot all those times i cornered my P-51 inside of your...what was it again...oh yes NIKdweeb plane only to have you trickle down to earth as a fine mist intermingled with shredded bits of aircraft grade aluminum.  CH pedals are on the way so now i'll even be able to use the rudder!  oooooo yay!

We'll settle this mess in May.  I have to think of a name to call my SIAI Marchetti...hmm.  And when I beat you best out of six in Marchettis, i'm going to annihilate you in R/C combat.  When i destroy your ego and airplane in R/C combat, i will clean you out on the golf course.  When you're cleaned out on the golf course...well you get the idea.

See ya in the air, both simulated and in the lethal skies of PA alive with the sound of Marchettis and bright with infared bullets streaming from my airplane to yours.

LMAO!!!!!

Just remember these few rules of AirCombat USA engagements:

#1.  No running past the hard-deck of 2,000 ft MSL (oh oh! no P51 Runstang tactics that you love dearly..  ;-)

#2. No HO's or quarter-angle passing shots,, only "Saddled Up" 6:00 deflections..

(BIG OH OH! for you, you, YEW!)

You better be wearing a big reflectorized mirror for a back-plate,, (laser hits, bounce-back?)

Tiny bits of shredded Marchetti will delicately fall to the deep blue Atlantic otherwise.. (yours, yours! not mine!)

The Trophy will be mine,, MINE,, MINE ALONE!!!

Ok, ok,, just having fun.  For the record?
You're like one of the very best sim pilots I've encountered in the 20 years I've been doing it.

You are like, one of the ONLY P51 pilots who DONT run from a fight, and are skillfull enuff with a GD P51 to turn the tables on a fast N1K (50% of the time!,, which is about 49% more than others in P51's of AH)

I WILL take the trophy back,, you're just holding onto it for me, whil'st I'm in my slumber mode, as it were.. (with an elevator spiking broken joystick, now replaced!).. give it to me, give it to ME!!

Let's do the N1K v 51 co-alt, cold merge, "thing" again.. without my pals butting in. (good gawd they're pesty things) AHHAhahahaa..

Good day ~

Cherish it like your lifes blood..

You best be concentrating on Delta Cups a little more than tommy-tail-spinning ...

MOOOahahahahaha...
