When you see a 109 with the tail wagging violently
« on: November 19, 2002, 10:18:00 AM »
you'll know it's me trying to get used to my pedals. :)

I've had these hofmann simpeds for a couple of years now but just now got the USB adapter yesterday. I've gotten so used to my MS twisty stick that the pedals are going to be really tough to get used to.

Many pilots with L33T 5k1LLZ whom I respect get by with just a hand-operated rudder, be it MS twisty rudder or the saitek thingy, but I think the pedals are going to be better when I get used to them, feels like I have more independant and precise control of yaw motion with them. (theoretically;))

But it seems less people are using foot pedals these days.
What do you use? and are you happy with it?

hblair, I dont have pedals, and I dont have jostick rudder control either . So I never use rudder in AH :( . Just to land doras with broken wings. Using keyboard in the middle of a fite is worse than use rudders for me.

Good luck with your new adquisition :)

No wonder Urchin shot you down. I was wondering how you could blow so bad on 5 V1.

Buy some rudders already.

TM RCS rudders with my Cougar setup. I have been using rudders for years and don't know how I would do without them.

Hblair if you think it is hard to get used to rudder pedals, trying going back.

My CH USB pedals finally died.  First they would lose calibration between sessions of AH, then while playing the game between flights, then during flight.  Finally they just wouldnt calibrate anymore at all.

Now im using the throttle rudder control on my X-45.  I'm having all sorts of trouble keeping a line on a enemy plane and im even having troubles on steep jabo runs. (This and my feet are still wiggling around under the desk during fights.) :)

Once you get used to the precise control and feel of rudder pedals you will never go back.

It might well be me....it's just that, in my particular case, the tail is usually some hundreths feet away from the rest of the 109  :D

I've been using the Saitek thinghy for approximately one year, until the Joystick gave up. Can't connect the throttle alone, so I'm stuck with a Logitec dunnowhat twisty "rudder" that barely let me try the "shaky fish" (Luftwobble Tm) manouver....Yes, I know, I know, only useful to shake bogies outta my 6...

Cheers,

I use CH Pro pedals, and they work fine.  I especially like the toe brakes.

OTOH, I used a cheap 2-axis joystick for throttle/rudder for years in AWDOS.  Worked great.  In fact, it was more precise than pedals.

I've (we've now that the missus is flying too) got the Cougar HOTAS and SIMPED rudder pedals, tried for a bit with only a CH Fighter stick, drove me nuts. I also fly X-Plane so the pedals are necessary and second nature. Kind of hard snap rolling etcetera without pedals for me (just try doing a point-roll without rudders!). I've gone through everything since starting years and years ago, and my current set-up is by far my favorite. My flight chair is now equiped with the Cougar HOTAS as well as 5 speakers and powered sub-woofer all running on Dolby 5.1 at 750 watts total, I'd hate to be my neighbor!! The chair cost me $35 total. A perfect older style square office chair at a garage sale ($10), brackets and plywood. MsPsyco and I even upholstered the cousion on the right-arm padding using material from an old robe of mine, looks awesome. Now I just have to get my 'wings' back after a 3 year hiatus.

I used the rocker switch on my afterburner, and now the rocker on my x45(which is pretty iffy)  Much better than a twist IMO, since you accidently move the rudder by moving the stick.

Trying to get pedals though, the rocker on the afterburner is very nice, but on the x45, it seems to be designed for use by some sort of non-human.

I use the X36 Saitek throttle rudder thingy's and one of the posts describes the problem I have always had with them..When lining up a target it is almost impossible for me to use the Rudder thingy on the throttle to any advantage for a shot... I was
looking to purchase Foot Rudder Pedals this week because of this problem and now that I have another opinion on it I think thats a good option...  Its worth a try!!
