Any suggestions for this?

right now my stick is on the right hand side of my desk and my shoulder gets ganked while I'm trying to fly with it that way.

I've seen some fine stable looking stick holders in some of the "show me your desk" pictures..

I figure I'll have to go ahead and build one but any pointers or ideas would be appreciated (things that have been tried and failed, balance issues, etc...), I'm not the most creative design person..

I bought a set of rails at Home Depot that were marketed as being for keyboard shelves (the kind that slide out from under your desk).

I cut a piece of while treated/painted wood (it was a shelf at Home Depot, $2 or so) to be about two feet long, then I attached the hinges to it on the long edges (eg, the opposite of how a keyboard shelf would be made) and attached it to the bottom of my desk.  Now when I need to fly, I pull this shelf out and it rolls out and clicks into place at about a 45 degree angle to me because I put it in diagonally.

What chairboy drew as an example is exactly what I used for 5 years, until I got a desk that had a roll-away keyboard tray large enough to accomodate a JS and throttle.  (Now I have "Flying Furniture" cockpit, but thats built with HOTAS in mind)

Ergonomics is extremely important, or you'll end up like me, two shoulder surgery's and arthritis in the other.

It looks like I need to get to home depot.

I've seen a orthopedist already and had been in constant pain which is why I don't fly much anymore..but I'd like to fix that so I can fly more now that it's feeling better. (without messing it up again)

Have him check (if he hasn't already) for an inpingement, thats what I had (Calcium deposit built up in the socket of the shoulder, due to years of CADD/CAM and flight sims)  They can give you cortezone(sp) shots but usually this is just a temporary thing, you'll have to get 'scoped eventually.  Also, go to the health food store and get Sodium Glucosamine, this toejamt is a natural miracle drug (made from seashell I believe?) in itself.  I wouldn't be weight lifting had it not been for Glucosamine.

I would but the guy is a complete effing idiot..he asked me a few questions and told me that he didn't think anything was wrong and sent me on my way.

oh and he hit me in the back a few times with his fist and asked if it hurt..

I can get that kinda treatment elsewhere, I certainly don't need a specialist to do that.

I'd heard of the cortezone shots but heard they are:

Painful as hell
Temporary

so I didn't consider it any further.

mom recommended glucosamine (as well) which I'll move towards if it starts to come back, so far just stopping the amount of flying I was doing has eased it somewhat.

I did some reading on glucosamine and it really does sound like a great thing..I had forgotten actually about it since this started (a while back)..thanks for the reminder.

I've had one corty shot, was painless...unless you get the type of Ortho that wants to "break up" the calcium deposit WITH the needle of the corty shot...which is not unusual...then I hear its very painful. I was fortunate, as he shot me once, then 6 months later I dropped to the 'scope.  The first 4 years after were hell, not as bad prior to surgery, but still present..I dealt with it via ibeprofin...then I discovered Glucosamine.  Rest as they say is history. (Glucosamine with MSM is good too I've heard, though I'm not to hot on additional sulfur in my bloodstream)

Oh, and 10bears, C-clamps were my friend in the early days of Joysticks and computers for me!~

Cortizon shots twice a week in my right knee for 3 years after ACL reconstruction during football season only. The rest of the time was drug free except for the 2 800mg Motrin I took every morning and afternoon once I got off the Tylenol 3 (with codein).

The best thing to do aside from the Glucosamin is to go to a doc in the box and get him to refer you to a Physical Therapist for several sessions. They do excellent deep massage therapy now and help the affected through rehab. Then get them to offer up suggestions on real orthopedic surgeons who can help with surgical matters if they are still needed.

To clamp down that joystick try some self adhesive velcro strips. Stick strips on desk and joystick stick it down no problem. Plus you can still pull it up to clean etc etc. Wont help the bum shoulder but once you get that shelf or whatever built it will hold it in place very nice.
