additions I would like, as a newbie!
« on: November 20, 2002, 01:10:38 PM »
I have just started to play AH, and so far I have enjoyed it very much. There does seem to be a lot of bickering and ranting, but I presume this is mainly done by our younger enthusiasts! (I hope so, because there is a lot of childish behaviour, and name calling...poor lambs!)
I was previously a regular in Warbirds, but have now discovered AH. There is a lot more depth to AH, which I like A LOT!

However, as a personal preference, I would like to see....

1. Merchant shipping, for re supply, and as a nice slow target!
2. Some independant War Ships. Not attached to Carrier Fleet. (Player controled!)
3. Submarine  / U-Boat (player controlled. For getting the Carrier Fleet!
4. Flying Boats, for getting the U-Boats / convoys
5. Mine layers.
6. Personalised nose art for aces (sorry if this is in already, told you I was new!)

Sorry if this makes me a dweeb, etc..[enter relevant derogitory remark!]

Thanks :)

If you want to lose the whining on channel 1 and 2 you could try the CT, as there are less people so less chance of a moron being on.

htc has always had a dream of submarines, but that seems to have taken a back burner for the moment.

"you might be happier finding some naval sim. "

aha!..know that it sounds like that..but I cant really find a fault with the core game of AH! It remains a combat flight sim...but because of the depth of the game, I wanted a little more! More targets and more strategy..if you get my drift!

It already has road and rail convoys...it still isnt SIM convoy though....if you get my point!?

There is no criticism...just a thought

those are great ideas IMO.

HT spoke about future submarines but like posted above, I think it's back burner for now.

As stated, Hi-Tech has wanted to get U-boats for some time. They may or may not be in the works, but his father (I believe) was a submariner, and he has a passion for this area, so chances are, you'll get your sub sooner or later.

The strat debate rages on. Read  a few of the more current threads and you'll see what I mean. There is the usual camps here, 1 for all out Quake Style gaming, and others for a more cerebral Strat WWII Sim.

The mission arena will be out sometime soon, which may make the game more for the WWII Sim minder folks. Otherwise, I highly recommend signing up for Tour of Duty (1 life, set mission, etc)

If you are interested, I would also recommend joining a squad, ot at least participating in Missions. The Marine Air Wing is always recruiting, and I'd be happy to give you the tour.

As for childish behavior....2 recommendations...

When you log in, type .squelch 1

This will squelch the constant barrage of BS you see in the gray text.

If someone is particularly annoying, simply type .squelch (Callsign of annoying person).

And if you really want to avoid anti-social behavior, don't read this board!:D

Welcome, and good luck.

1) There are cargo barges that resupply coastal feilds ( At least in Tunisia terrain)
2) this has already been done also in many maps made for the CT
3) I believe HT said this will be added in the future.
4) I would suspect you'll see these in the future but not a major priority, I think HTC needs to balance out the game with more fighters.
5) God i hope so, along with "shallow" water.
6) personalized nose art is already in the game.

Actually, I've yet to even see an enemy train or truck convoy to date.

When you think you see an enemy train, fly right up to it and get a real close look.

Subs aren't such a dream after BF1942 has shown. BUT that was an arcadey version of sub warfare....a Silent hunter type is a different story altogether

I think the independant fleet idea is a good one

Right now... the only naval element... the cv groups don't last much past the first suicide P47 flown by the first newbie nosepicker that spots it..  Anything that makes the cv even less usefull would not be a welcome addition at this point.
