Union in my cookie?!
« on: November 20, 2002, 03:13:35 PM »
So, I had to go up to Portland today to drop off my defective car stereo for service.  Since I was up there anyhow, I took the opportunity to pick up some take-out from Wu's Open Kitchen AKA The Best Damned Chinese Food around.  I just finished mowing down my Kung Pao and cracked open my cookie to find a fortune that says "Union gives strength.  Work cooperatively".

WTF?!  Is the bakery that makes the cookie a union shop???  :D

I think unions can be a good thing. Certainly, some unions have some rather shady practices. The same can be said for some employers.

To say that all unions are bad is to imply that all employers are good.

No organisation that distributes propaganda through cookies can be a good thing.

What makes you think it's propaganda?

Any company with a Union probably deserves it.

Little side story. My Dad's company was about to have a union vote. While direct lobbying is illegal he took the opportunity to figure out the total of 1 years Union dues. He then went out and bought a bunch of cool toys like TV sets, a shotgun, and other stuff with that money. These were placed in a conspicuous location in the plant and a little sign just said "1 years dues".

The union lost the election.

I think someone should loose their hard line status against unions and read what was in the cookie.

Your being biased.

"Union gives strength. Work cooperatively".

All it's saying is work together in unity and work cooperatively.

Your the one putting the unionism into it.

Which came first?

Piss-poor management or unions?
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!
