I'd pay $50 for AH if and when they move forward on a more detailed damage model - (like Il-2)

I dig the new particle system for smoke - but the hit sprites are still a bit blah.

Even if the damage was only noticable at a very close range - that would be extraordinary and wouldnt put a hit on peoples FE (except for mb Shane's puter)

Just a wish for that and more planes :p

Also a transport for airlifting vehicles to non spawn points would be cool too....

I'd pay $50 for AH if they release Ki-43/Ki-44/Ki-84/Ki-100 at the same time. :D

AH got it right. IL-2 is not even close.

Maybe there is something wrong with me, but I am still very happy with AH. I am more interested in seeing the planeset continue to expand than any changes in the game engine.

Of course I am the type of guy who still owns an operational Atari 2600 : if you can get over the graphics, it still has the most fun video games ever made with several great multiplayer games.

Would I complain if AH improved its modeling and graphics? No way... as long as it is  runs as smooth and stable as it does now.

For some reason, IL-2 has never impressed me the way it has most people. I tried it and find that I am much happier with AH. Partly due to planeset and theater... but partly due to intangibles based on the look and feel.

As it is, I am more interested in playing Strike Fighters. I love flying the F-4 Phantom in dogfights more than any other plane.

Strikeagle,

I feel the same way!  IL2 is nice, but not even close to a replacement for AH.  I fly IL2 offline and have alittle fun with it but it reminds me of 3-4 years old simulations with alittle additional eye candy.

Everytime I fly IL2 it feels like my face is always in the gunsight.  Like if the pilot shifted way forward in his seat.  No side vision coverage at all, unless I use the hat buttons.  Im sure there is a control for this but I have som amany controls mapped now it is overwhelming!  :)

Powell: Yes Rock.
Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.

same here , iL2 is nowhere near as enjoyable as AH.

It has many frustrating features like the lack of head positioning and the poor trim controls.

flying in Il2 for long distances is a complete bind! the lack of auto level etc makes it more realistic but incredibly boring.Constantly adjusting trim just to fly level is not what i play the game for and without a feel for the planes movements like flying in a real aircraft it should not be so fiddley.Trim on real aircraft has much more feel to it and so can be felt when its right. In iL2 you seem to either very slowly climb or slowly dive/roll etc. truelly frustrating.
The damage model is probably more realistic or closer to the real thing but it equates to frustrating gameplay online with people having poor ping etc.wasting all your ammo shooting at a warping plane is all too common.

theres no servers that come close to AH's even though I think AH has got slightly worse in the last year or so concerning connects it still outshines other sims like warbirds or Il2 etc.

I personally think HiTech should probably start to work on a new version of the game.  AH was great for 1999, very good for 2000, good for 2001, decent for 2002 but the engine is getting long in the tooth and if they aren't careful HTC will Air Warrior themselves out of buisiness.

I would be willing to pay 50 bucks (up front even) for a total revamp of the game.  I suspect that a new version is going to become download unfriendly (something akin to FAIII's almost 300 meg download) so a CD wouldn't be too bad an idea.

I guess the question should be:  How many of you would be willing to ante up 50 dollars in advance to give HTC the funds needed to create a AH 2.0?  I think, along with a money back guarantee that we would get our 50 bucks back if there is no new version in 1 year, would probably be a catalyst to HTC to develop a new game.

good idea - but just to reiterate - I am in no way comparing the games playable factors - both are good in thier own rights - and I personally prefer the taste of AH to Il-2 anyways :)

Was only commenting on the great job that Il-2 did on thier damage modeling ONLY and since it's gonna be 2003 in a little over a month....

if your happy with the same static left wing missing in the exact same place, then so be it - I just look to HTC to be doing more with that part of it (hopefully soon) as technology and time demands. :)
