Low-Level Bombing AGAINST GV'S
« on: November 25, 2002, 11:22:54 AM »
I've been tinkering around in a Panzer here and there and have noticed that some people out there are very, very accurate with a type of low-level style of dive bombing.  The only dive-bombing I know is strat at 10k- nose over almost 100% verticle and drop.  This does nothing against gv's.  Anyone got any film or info. on how to low level attack w/ bombs.  What is the minimum size bomb you need to kill a panzer etc.  Oh-ya- how low do you got to be to see those little GV's ??

bout a 45degree angle with a 109 and belly bomb works well on gv and vh

problem is only one bomb per trip :)

A 45 degree attack is good for accuracy, but dangerous when the GV can shoot back.  For Flaks, a near vertical attack makes it harder for them to track you.

Not sure what the minimum size bomb is to kill a Panzer, but I wouldn't use anything smaller than 500 lbs (250 kg).  If you have time to rearm, and want to be real sure...two 1000 lbs.

You have to be 1.5k to see the GV icon, but the vehicle itself is visible much farther away.  I spot them, then wait for them to get near a landmark terrain feature, to make it easier to re-acquire when rolling into a dive.

Well i've never seen anyone drop on gv's going level unless in a buff.  I perfer to be up at 5k at least.  Although i am fairly accurate diving down at 1k.  For killing gv's i'd say a 250lb bomb is the minimum.  Go to training arena with your favortie plane and see how to do it by watching the little crosshairs for the bombs.

250kg is plenty but need to be a direct or only a few feet off to get kill although I have hit with 50kg bombs and gotten kills.

I usually fly only Japanese planes all are good divebombers, but the a6m5 and val are the most accruate,I normally climb to 7k nose over chop theottle come in at a 60+ degree angle as soon as the target disappears under my engine I release bomb and goto full throttle and climb like hell.

Not always perfect but have pretty good success at it.

BTW I think you can go offline and change settings so you can destroy your own airfield so you can practice bombing your own ack guns. There small enough to try to target, although there not moving but if you can get it to where you can score a direct hit in an ack gun you will be able to hit a gv moving or not.

Also some folks have custom divebombing sites might wanna ask around to see if anyone has em.

No no no...I'm talking about a style of divebombing that I've see used against GV's to good affect.  Its almost like "sling bombing" where the airplane is low to the ground and almost throws the bombs at the Gv's.......has anyone seen this????

Yea, I've seen it.  I can glide bomb ok, but this is totally different.  It is like the guy gets real low, then pulls up and 'drops' the bomb as he is pulling up to give it a ballistic track.  I can't do it though lol.

I've seen this, but always attributed it to a graphical/ip lag, where the person actually level bombed but the delay in his position change made it appear he toss-bombed.

Maybe someone has a system to make it work though, but I found even level bombing from low altitude to difficult to judge because of all the speed/altitude/moving target factors.

I saw a guy this weekend do this multiple times in a Fw...I forgot his name.....but he kept re-arming and just spanking the GV's with this method...again-making a fast run very low and pulling up hard...releasing his bombs while pulling up hard...giving the bombs a "throwing" effect.  He was right on the money every time.......

I can drop bombs from level flight at about 1k and hit ground vehicles pretty accurately, it isn't that hard.  What makes it really hard is the fact that they are shooting back- and they only need 1 hit to kill you.

Are you talking about a "dive-toss"? I've been tryying this on and off for a bit I can only hit cities and strat targets :). I guess if you practice enough and can figure out the right flight profile you should be able to be fairly accurate.

I can fly at 750 level and release ord and kill gvs. In the f8 I killed 6 gvs in 1 drop at south ofa45 on the Baltic map.

Bomb arming is a result of travel time not altitude. At around 325 at an alt of 750ft and at 1.7k from an nme gv I can release my bombs in an f8 and land hits.

Wow it's great that techniques like this work. Not once did it occur to me to try this type of bombing though I have used it b4 in other sims. Makes me wonder what else I can try and get to work... to the experimenters in AH :)

btw Wotan did you mean the F6F?

I found this method too speed dependent, though if I knew my speed accurately enough I could hit vehicles too using a similar technique.

I like the 190F8 too for that sort of thing, though I wish the wing mounted bombs could be a little larger for effect against Flaks.
