Target, was it Ironic, yes, Amusing no, irony and amusement do not necessarily go hand in hand.
After cleaning up after dead people I don't see much amusement in this. Irony yes.
It want to hear something ironic ?
22 year old airman gets dishonorable discharge from AF for writing bad checks, goes to town and buys 12ga shotgun with hot check. Comes back on base and goes home. Proceeds to blow holes through his house into his neighbors house, (base housing is like townhouses or apartments) points 12ga at wife and baby and threatens to kill them.
SP's (air police for the non-military types) show up and surround the house. Guy lets family go and shoots up the house somemore. After a protracted standoff, guy blows off most of his head and face. About 15 minutes later the SP's bust into the house through back window on the second floor, and shoot guy (now already dead) about 5 times.
Yours truly gets the honor of going to guy's house to cleanup and collect pieces parts. We spent about 4 hours picking up pieces of guy's skull and cleaning up brains and blood. There wasnt hardly anything in that room that didn't have gore and blood on it.
Now in this guys bedroom, where he went off, was a king size waterbed with a hugh mirror canopy. The mirrored canopy was cracked in large pieces but fairly intact. We took care to clean carefully so as to not damage the canopy or puncture the waterbed.
By now its about 8pm, and the SP's from that morning's standoff show up for a once over to see if we are done so they can lockup and secure the apartment. Its late and we start loading up the cleaning equipment, wet dry vac, the gore contaminated articles to be incinerated at the hosptial.
Well one of the SP's happens to be one of the guy's neighbors and his house/apartment is right next door. He proceeds brag to his buddies how he told the now dead guy how much of a loser he was and was always threatening to kick is ass. Big talk now that the guy is dead and there's no one to speak for him. Well he and his buddies yuck it up and kick the waterbed and a large chuck of mirror falls right in the middle of the bed, cuts a big gash, and water begins to gush out on the floor. He freaks because the water will run into his apartment next door, right down to his living room.
He asks us if they can use our wet dry vac to help suck up the water before his living room gets wet. "Sorry that equipment is contaminated with biological waste, can't let you use it"
And we left.
Ironic? To me yes. Amusing? Well, lets just say paybacks are squeak aren't they?
