ccvi. I expect to be back online winth a fourthnight (I'm at work now). To answer your question: Alt-. It's called "autopilot speed" in the key setup. I think it uses best climb-angle rather than best climb-speed, so avoid use in combat.

And for the main question: I usually fire up a cancer-stick, grab a few mouthfulls of soda (with vodka if I'm not working/driving the next day;) ), and check my six and radar a lot while trying to figure out what i'm going to do when I get up there.

I usually go afk during climbing for a smoke or a toke and watch TV with my girlfriend.

Did this last night, twice.  Give 'er a try.. Always an attention getter.

Find another country-man on same heading (especially bombers).  Slowly creep up from the low-6, adjust speed so closure is like 5 MPH, then climb up right INTO THEIR COCKPIT!  So you can see their dashboard atop yours,, then as you break forward,, touch off a burst!

The sound in their speakers, is LOUD & quite exciting..  What a RUSH!

Watch 'em go balistic..  in rear view.

(then decide how to occupy self for remaining 30 minutes to target)

I tried this last night...don't recommend:

Was in 262...3yr old boy got out of bed, needed drink and go to the bathroom....

I thought...hmmm....well if I grab in this direction I should be safe. Help the little guy take care of business, come back and in the tower!!!!!

Lesson learned...never afk in a perk plane..unless of coarse it is for good reason like a cute 3yr old son.

Been there too.

This is particularly aggravating when the wife is lying on the bed and she asks you to deal with the little one who needs attention..because she is watching TV.  

I don't usually say anything...because the answer I get is always "It's just a game".

actually it's usually
gaze at the 'always-on' tv,
or pick up the axe (guitar),
or surf a bit, read mail etc..
or get distracted and forget I'm even flying...

the other night I decided a quick dip in the hot tub was gonna be perfect.. never even logged off till I woke up next day.
well my connection was broken but AH was still up.

oh you mean to climb out?
I thought you were talking 'in game'

God I miss all of you guys!!  been a little while sine I have flown now that I am over here in Italy at Aviano AB.  Funny how things work out...I go to BMT, go to Tech School, go home, get married, wife, leave for Italy, wife is going to have baby (Feb 9th, 02), I go home for that, I come back to Italy, she comes over w/baby, she gets a 4 year honeymoon out of it!  Man, and to think I was going to have an expensive honeymoon!!!

When I am on auto climb, I do anything but pay attention to the screen...maybe that is why I get shot down so much when I am in auto climb!  I do agree with some guys... ALT sucks, come down to my level and fight!!

...usually spin around to PC #2 and play Jedi Knight 2 Demo or Soldier of Fortune...unlike my Lanc guns, those ones do damage  :D
