MAW mission to Rook HQ & A37
« on: February 19, 2001, 05:50:00 PM »
Well, not all the MAW…just 2 of us, PropMAW & BigGun..aka BgMAW. It was mid afternoon, lots of action all over the place. Then we decided to do a mission to Rook HQ. We proceeded to up 109s from 24 & began to climb, and climb we did. At about 18k a 109 con was spotted. At first the enemy engaged & then started to try and drag low. How low you might ask, it isn’t known cuz the MAW remained focused on target. As enemy went low, MAW grabbed more. At 22k the decision was made to drop down quickly to HQ as the enemy was in tow. First objective was that AAA…damn that stuff can be nasty. Barreling down on HQ BgMAW hits dirt, yes that is right…smack into the ground. Prop (I am sure laughing by now) continues to destroy AAA & brings down the enemy radar.

First run didn’t work that well, but the MAW can be persistent. Uppiing heavy hogs this time from 25, the coarse is set once again for Rook HQ. Wait…what is that on the map, a green dot approaching HQ along with 2 enemies. This unknown countrymate proceeds to knock out the friendly dar & enemy counter at HQ, making MAW job much easier. The unknown pilot tries to rtb while the MAW level at 8k, with 3 high dots above head. Fortunately the dots keep going West and MAW east. This time HQ was easily destroyed with a few eggs.

With HQ destroyed & Rook Dar down, the MAW decided to do another lonely & wild mission. With only 30 minutes & time ticking, Prop grabbed a b26 with BgMAW in gooney. The target this time, A37…center of Rook heartland & 6k alt. When taking off the MAW knew time was going to be close. That b26 grabbed & grabbed to 16k while the goon stayed much lower at 6k. 15 minutes left & 2/3rd way there, it was going to be close with only one attempt. As buff piloted by Prop approached A37 an enemy dot was spotted approximately 8k to the north. Surely the mission was doomed but the MAW pressed on. Wait..what was that, the dot moved away to the north (probably protecting that downed HQ from another attack). When buff got to field only 5 minutes to spare. Ack needed to be dropped quickly & it was. Goon landed, troops out & based captured with less than 2 minutes to go.

To say the least, it was a fun time and sure did grab the attention of them Rookies. Probably took them less than ½ hour to get the base back. In the meantime, the MAW immediately upped Lancasters from A37 & went to Rook city & dropped it to 0% with the help of mt74. Yup was there and it was fun.

When you got a37 a bunch of us went right after HQ and ran interference.

Chased a 51 in my ammoless N1k for a long time till I got help and went back to try and save a37 from the swarm of rooks that were there. Course what can you do with a ammoless N1k? I ran into some troops but died. They ended up sending 2 more goons and got a37 but it was fun while it lasted.

Good job both sides <S>
I have been reborn a new man!

So thats how it was done
Cool to hear the story on that, a lot of Rook were up regaining P32 and then sinking the CV... all of a sudden as the fleet died, '...captured A37...' then loads of 'How the hell did they manage that ???'.

Just unlucky you did it as the fleet went down i suppose, lots of unemployed people looking for a fight then

Yup, that really was a big surprise to us Rooks. It really shows how much we all depend on radar.

Good show guys! <S>
