Not sure what type of terrain you plan to use for the MA type arena, but how about making an ETO in a LARGE (accent on the LARGE) scale so that we can finally take advantage of the issues the ETO pilots dealt with..especially since we'll have Drop Tanks finally..(yippeee....)  If a Rectangular map is possible rather than a square, a large swath of ground from the English bases EAST would do the job..  I'm so sick of maps scaled for distance but not Altitude..and diving from Germany to the Channel in 10 minutes...

Yes....im sure in the HISTORICAL ARENAs this will be great...but how much you gonna pay an hour...to fly....and fly....and continue to fly......and fly some more....WAIT..THERES A CON.......darn...just a cow......and fly some more....and still flying...

See My Terrain editor Post tho... This is exactly the kind of ideas im talking about...Jagr you should be able to create your Dream map for a SL and such.  Down to the nitty gritty details....

Even in a historical scenario nobody really wants to fly from Norfolk to Schweinfurt in real time!  The only thing you could model on that scale is He111s and 109s gathering over Calais and Spits & Hurris scrambling to get them before they reach London. Almost any other scenario you can think of involves several hours of uneventful flying just to get from base to the target. Yes you can start with everyone in the air 30 minutes from target but a large part of the fun of a scenario is taking off, forming up, navigating there then limping back to base streaming oil

Real-scale map would really be interesting for certain 'battle areas' like the BoB, but the real long-range missions would be to boring for everyone. The WB 1/3rd scale ETO map is too small for the BoB, but large enough for long range raids from the UK deep into germany. But with the already built-in terrain editor both options will be availiable, me thinks. And I would bet there will be a lot of 'players' that would like to contribute to the sim and create authentic maps.

Firstly,
I never said "real" scale..I don't want a 7 hour flight either..but to be able to have one way flights of a little over an hour would be great for large scale bomber scenarios..that way a round trip over two hours (the duration of the event) would fit nicely..  Right now the map scale opens up some terrible handicaps that all the fuel multipliers and air starts in the world won't overcome...

The arena's are scaled for distance but not altitude so climbing to Alt takes so long it throws things off..plus the "intercept window" is so short that its very difficult to get good gameplay.

Hat Trick.

In a 1:1 terrain, game play would not be as slow as you make it sound. 109's, FW's, Spits, Hurri's etc for eg have roughly an hour worth of fuel which means the fight would have to take place within 30min before having to RTB. On the Eastern front they would easily find trouble within 10-15min of flying. A 1:1 scale terrain only means fields will be much closer to eachother and the countless fields left out on 3:1 scale terrains could be included.

B17 and Escort missions would be another story, but I am sure a compromise could be made to account for this. Regardless, your terrain editor would make this a non issue.
