Pilots from 4° Stormo Caccia pose in front of Macchi C205 in Vigna di Valle, at Italian Air War Museum.
They are, from left to right Vespa, BOOM, maruk, Nibbio and son and Ndumah.

What a beautiful plane!  Anyone know what those cylindrical shaped things are on the sides and bottom just behind the prop?

You r right frank3, the cylindrical shaped thing just behind the prop is Corbetta anti-sand filter. The C 205 s were equipped in series with Corbeta anti-sand filters which were positioned on the air inlet of the compressor, they were shaped stoppers which prevented the sand entering into the exhaust pipes and into the air inlets.
The bottom ones are cylindrical oil cooler. Note the divergent shape of the exhaust pipes and the classical "rings" Veltro camouflage.

The G.55 is simply beautiful :) Actually, it should be a converted G-59 but who cares? ;) Nice firepower indeed, with 3x20mm and 2x12,7mm ...
"And one of the finest aircraft I ever flew was the Macchi C.205. Oh, beautiful. And here you had the perfect combination of italian styling and german engineering .... it really was a delight to fly ... and we did tests on it and were most impressed." - Captain Eric Brown
