Its comparitively easy to get a high fighter rank- you just have to be halfway decent.

Attack rank isn't to bad,  bomber and GV rank are a little tougher.

Bomber and GV rank are really easy to get.  Last campaign, I was able to get a really low bomber rank (24) with just 5 bomber flights.  3 of them hitting a town in the A-20 and the other two flights in a C-47 capturing a couple of towns.  In GV's I was able to knock my rank down from over 1000 to less than 200 with only 4 GV runs, 3 of them in an Ostie taking out a town and the fuel/ammo bunkers of the nearby base and capturing a town with an M3.  It seems for bomber and GV ranks, the best way to increase them is to capture towns.  Kind of cheesy and another reason why rank is meaningless to me.

They will be coming out of the wallpaper!

Score hogs at their finest!   Should be fun to watch!
Rock:  Ya see that Ensign, lighting the cigarette?
Powell: Yes Rock.
Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.

My first thought on this was,
Why?
What does HTC and AH get out of this deal?
.
.
.

Play Aces High!

Cash prizes awarded to top pilots!

So then HTC spends an average of $925 + admin costs per month to implement this contest.  If 60+ more dweebs play AH per month, they break even...

And if MORE than 60+ sign up....
.
.
.

Ah, I get it now, it's a PROFIT DEAL!

They might actually MAKE money on this!
How dare they!  :)

(Unless they spend some of that money to hire more folks so that they can model the P-39 and I-16, etc., of course)

This promotes kill stealing, vulching, strato-buffs, and all the other dweeb stuff you don't wana see....don't like this. The top 15 piolts in the MA aren't the top 15 piolts in the game. MA rank translates to nothing.

Wana see who is good? Rework the score system for the DA. Base who is good, and who isn't good on who wins the most 1 vs. 1s, in fair planes (p51 vs g-10, 109E vs spit 1, ect....) not the typical La7 vs p40...or N1K vs. 109E MA stuff.....

Well...let the dweebfest begin!

I don't think the cash reward is the thing to go. As people duely mention, the top 15 scorers aren't necessary the top 15 pilots, nor pilots which would deserve such respect or rewards. While a lot of them are good people both in skill and attitude, whom I would wish to learn flying from, others are bitc*y whiners who can never stand a death from "unknown" pilots, known to dump trash at ch1, would harass other people, and will sell his soul for points and scores if necessary.

Cash reward will just bring cynicism and disapproval from the real pilots who don't do the chest-thumping bit, or low in general scores due to limited flying time. The sneers and contempt against the "score-potatos high" aspect of AH will worsen AH MA environment which is already trashy enough.

 ...

Instead, give them some other type of reward. A non-profitable, honorary thing should be fine enough. Maybe something like a special squadron marking (in concpet something like the sort VVS Elite Guards received) approved only by HTC, or a special icon visile to friendlies.. something like maybe a star next to their names, making them recognizable as pilots with great skill who is officialy noted by HTC as winners of the shoot-out contests... or maybe a special(!) rudder colors/markings such as early LW pilots dabbled in.. or maybe a special text like "System: PilotX, an HTC Elite, has landed with X kills"..

This is reward enough to satisfy personal egos, and yet not big enough to cause scorn and open contempt from those who do not approve.

I truely beleive this will be bad for the community.  Not only do I have score hogs, but now I have motivated score hogs, and to top it off....I just know theres going to be a few trying to game the game in a whole new way.  I just hope HT has the time and energy to be the ongoing babysitter this may require.

Only positive I can think of, is maybe it will encourage people to not spawn form capped fields....I can only hope.

A ploy(sp) to make more money?  Yes

Promoting cheating and overall poor sportsmanship (score potato, kill stealing, etc)  Yes

Take the money you'd give to the score potatos and spend it on bonuses for the HT crew to make the game better (ie new planes and maps).  I'd much rather see a HT employee get the cash than a snot nosed kid living off of mom and dad exploiting everything he  can to get some free beer money.  :)

I'd have to agree with this...

If HTC has money to burn do like Mox says. I hate to see part of my money go to vulching, gamey, kill stealing, point mongers who will/do ruin the game for others and make the MA more arcadish. If not just bump the price down to $10 a month... wouldn't hurt my feelings any.
