Bring the B-29 to Aces High
« on: December 04, 2002, 02:36:05 PM »
Here are the specs:

Span: 141 feet, 3 inches
Length: 99 feet
Height: 27 feet, 9 inches
Weight: 133,500 pounds
Armament: Eight .50-caliber machine guns in remote controlled turrets plus
two .50-caliber machine guns and one 20mm cannon in tail;
20,000 pounds of bombs
Engines: Four Wright R-3350s of 2,200 horsepower each
Maximum speed: 357 mph.
Cruising speed: 220 mph.
Range: 3,700 miles
Service Ceiling: 33,600 feet

It should be able to carry the Uranium bomb (which weighed in at over 4 & 1/2 tons) nicknamed "Little Boy" that was dropped on Hiroshima.  The point of total vaporization from the blast measured 1/2 of a mile in diameter,  utter destruction at one mile, at 2 1/2 miles everything that could burn burned, and the final edge of the blast reached 3 miles.  I would love to see this total dsetruction in Aces High.  After all it was the B29 and its atomic bombs that saved the war didn't it?  It would just have to be dropped at a certail hieght and be perked (well duh!!)

I'd love to have this bird as a perk bomber.

While we do need a perked bomber, for all those points I'm rackin up :D, I dont think a nuke B-29 is hardly appropriate. Usually people who take a bomber usually only go to the next base over, which is like 2 miles away. Unless you want to vaporize your home base as well, you're gonna have to fly a long way through enemy territory with no escort, as no existing plane in Aces High will be able to maintain altitude, airspeed, or the long range needed to stay with you all the way, leaving you to enemy flak and fighters.

Just a thought.

One map grid is 25 miles.   Bases are not 2 miles apart.

take away the atomic bomb cuz its just wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy yyyyyyyyyyyy stupid and add the modified B-29-a-1 that were modified for low level fast attacks all it had left in it was bombs a tail gun and i think on top gun

it would be great to cruse along the ground at 350 to a small town then bomb the F* out of em........ i say we need the modified low attack night version it would be alot more sensable

Sure b-29 be interesting, new planes - any new plane- are a good thing.

But...

Wouldn't something like the b-25 with all the options - big 75mm gun, the rockets, and a mess 'o forward firing 50's - be a lot more usefull?

Aside from that, I feel it is difficult to make the case for the b-29 with out first a b-24 - or better yet - some more german (or any other country) bombers.

The conventional fire bombing of Tokyo killed more people than the atomic bombs did.  The B29 was a pretty horrible weapon, but it was effective.  Few bombers have killed (most burned alive) as many humans as the B29 has.

No offense but that makes absolutely no sense. First of all there ARE planes that could keep up with the B29 at altitude, and second of all if there 'weren't' then would the enemy have access to different planes than your own? In other words, right now in the MA anyone can fly any plane they want. So if you chose the best plane in Aces High and attempted to escort the bomber, but couldn't, how would it be left to enemy fighters and flak? Just a thought...

There are many bombers I'd like to see before the B-29, but I would like to see it eventually.  However, not with atomic bombs.

******

My top picks for new level bombers are (at the moment):

1.  Heinkel He-111 H-3

2.  Ilyushin IL-4

3.  B-25C (early war)

4.  S.M. 79  or  CANT Z.1007bis

5.  Mitsubishi G4M1  "Betty"

6.  B-24J  "Liberator"

7.  Ju-52 (usually a transport, it could also drop bombs)

8.  Wellington
