New vid card but AH will not launch
« on: December 04, 2002, 05:41:43 PM »
Just had a Geforce 4 Ti 4600 installed. Launching AH , the opening screen only has the wire/spring of the clipboard and a green line directly below that, the rest of the page is white, and no cursor. I can minimze by using alt/tab, to close AH

I tried uninsalling and redownloading to no avail.

Any Ideas how to correct this?

System:

AMD 1.4 gh
512 DDR ram
windows 98 se
56k robotix modem

Ute.

Install DirectX 8.1 again should fix it, if not re-install Nvidia 30-82 drivers for your Ti card. they seem to work best.

If you are using the latest 40 series detonator driver, and want to revert back to the 30-82, remember to change the adapter back to PC! VGA from the manual selection (list), remove old drivers (add/remove) before rebooting, then re-install 30-82s.

Always re-install DirectX 8.1, it may not be necessary but its best to be sure that they are always updated when changing drivers.

To check that all is well type "dxdiag" in the run box on the start menu, and check that all DirectX tests work ok.

30-82 drivers are good for Ti series.  You must get rid of old drivers first before changing (see my post above) by reverting to standard PCI VGA adapter first.

P.S. If it still causes trouble after updating driver, and directX diagnostics work ok, delete the file Video7.cfg in the AH settings folder, and re-run AH to re-detect your video adapter

The drivers change seems to have solved the problem. :)

Hi Keegan  :D

Had the same problem, still can`t sort it..
I`m running Win98 on a partitioned hard drive, with Win2kPro.
I can get online and onto AH web site with either OS..
Using Win98 I have no problems running the game.  However with 2kPro I get the same problem as Ahbleza:

"Just had a Geforce 4 Ti 4600 installed. Launching AH , the opening screen only has the wire/spring of the clipboard and a green line directly below that, the rest of the page is white, and no cursor. I can minimze by using alt/tab, to close AH" .
I`m (obviously using same hardware for both OS`s..:

I don't see you running SP3.  You need at least sp2 to correct the graphical errors in W2k.  Search the forums, there must be at least a dozen or so threads.

W2k=  Needs Sp3 to run AH properly.

OK...Before I go looking for this thread.. What is SP3??
What I didn`t mention is that I had to trim the information given, as the total was above the limit for message size.

Sorry If I seem a little stupid, but acronyms are clear when you know what they mean..Otherwise, its a load of gobblygook :D

Actually, you do not need SP3 for AH.  None of our W2K system have SP3 on it.

BUT, you do need to make sure you have W2K updated with all the other updates.  SP2 is a must, that is for sure.

Scuzzy, true, but if he's gonna spend the time DL it, it'll be better IMHO just to get 3.  I did indicate that he needs at least 2.  I have heard of very minor issues with three for the enviroment that he is in...
