Simple score fix
« on: December 05, 2002, 09:15:30 AM »
Change bomb drop scoring so that each bomb dropped is scored as either 1 hit or 1 miss in the hit% category regardless of how many structures the bomb destroys

This will put a quick end to bomber rank padding 4K single drop in the middle of a city.

It's either a hit or a miss. The best you could possibly achieve is 100%.

Stop penalizing guys that are out there bombing the way it was meant to be done. HTC developed a nice formation bombing system with calibration routine so bombers could carpet bomb. Dweebs that are dropping only 1 large bomb to pad their scores are useless to the rest of the country and shouldn't be rewarded with high rank because of it.

I am not "sold" on hit percentage being the be all end all of this, especially since the event of the formation bombers.  I have fooled around with it, and getting a lot of points for destroyed stuff is important too - I think more so.  What you can not do is miss or die - I still think this is where people loose it.  Mind you I am still experiementing, but I think you can do fine without the 4k thing.

I have a hit percentage over 800% something and I have been using my full bomb loads.   Sure big bombs (no 4k's) but I been using all of em and NOT flying formations.   (If you fly formations with the current bomb "spread", those extra 2 bombs just blow up the same thing the first bomb already did resulting in a score penalty.)

(edit to add:  accuracy with the bomb sight is still of paramount importnace - I never hit more than a crater width or so away from what I aim at even at great altitude.  But I practiced that back when, ALOT)

I agree Turbot, hit% is not the only thing that matters, but making this change will remove %ONE% of the score manipulating tactics.

Truely if you DO hit more stuff with one bomb you SHOULD get something for that.   Hit Percentage alone isn't going to save you.  Ranks in "Damage / Deaths", "Points" and "Damage / Sorties" together are worth much more than the 1 category of "Hit percentage".   I feel this already serves as a 3:1 counter balance in the figures.

Now surely yes, you would want a good hit percentage too, but that should (and I feel does) come from doing the other things right.

I do have very mixed feelings about field captures being in the bomber score - as troops have nothing to do with performance in a bomber.   An entire new category for resupply and captures (vehicles and Goons) I would like to see.   People that resupply bases get nothing of value now, and it is a good team activity to promote.

I would think even bomber haters like laz would like to see more incentive for resupply - that way his fighter would tend to have more gas. :)
