109G-10 should have red landing gear legs
« on: July 29, 1999, 01:46:00 AM »
109's with the MW 50 system used 96 or 100 octane C3 fuel, and had the landing gear legs painted red in order to remind the ground crew of the fuel requirements (87 octane fuel would ruin the engine).

It would be very cool if AH was the first sim to represent this, of course you could only see it when the landing gear were extended, but still very cool.

Yeah and most of the 109 pilots had blue eyes. Also this should be modelled. Of course you could see this only at ten yards and less in HO attack but still it would be cool.

HTC, repaint the landing gear legs red in 109G-10!! Ik deserves it after all the effort he's done for 109's authencity

the 109 is getting a whole new paint job.....we didn't have good references the first time thru..... if the references we use have red landing gears, I'll be sure to add them in...

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about.

In the book Bf 109 G/K Field Conversion Kits by Harold Vogt it has a picture of the same 109G-10, the caption reads: "Bf 109G-10 following an outstanding restoration job. The red markings on the upper part of the strut are clearly visible and reveal that this aircraft is equipped with the MW 50 system.

regards,

As long as the F4U is a convertable and has a fat, bald, and toothless pilot you should have at least one happy customer.

just found another good quote from Messerschmitt Bf 109 F,G & K Series by Jochen Prien and Peter Rodeike.

pictures a 109G-6/AS and on this particular 109 the whole strust is red along with the wheel hub.

....and while your at it, could you repaint the tail of the P-51D blue also?  Then it would have the correct markings for the 487th FS "Lil' Bastards".

Make that two votes for the blue tail.  Oh! and HO are the letter identifiers, and an "R" for Rebel on the tail would be nice

Wow, look at that clear headrest!  Why, when that pilot turned around and looked behind him, I bet he could see...the rear fuselage bulkhead!

  couldn't resist...
