my grandpa flew them though this is off the topic but he flew them in the pacific and got shot down a shell went through his arm and was picked up by a nearby sub

cool, did he earn his dolphins while on the sub?? :D  I heard of a Navy pilot who did that... was rescued by sub and couldn't get back to base because it was more important for the sub to stay out on patrol than return the pilot.  He was put to work on that sub and ended up earning his dolphins.  Would be kinda funny to see an army dog with wings and dolphins. :D

Well, one more question. About the "Block Numbers" the -11 came from two manufactuers, RE Farmingdale and RA Evansville. However, both RA and RE Block numbers are the same, -11! Is the dash number a change in sequence rather than model? For example to try and better explain myself. The P-47 is the model with a major change to be: P-47C or P-47D. What would be the diff in the P-47D-10 and P-47D-11?  And why did they skip -7 thru -9? plus a few others?
